So new owner of a beautiful black X7 M50i.
I have 11” I pad pros coming for the kids. Will the brackets hold this size? I half tempted on ordering to check but maybe the info is here?

It's holding the 10" FireHD perfectly with a lot of room to spare. And this is a heavy tablet

I don't have the part number handy. But it's called universal holder. Not the iPad specific
Using a case is totally your choice as it's not required and it works with any case

I have the same generic holder and it holds thin cases well. The bulkier rubber kids cases are a bit too thick to stay in there securely but honestly after having it for 10 months my kids rarely use it and just hold the iPads.

I believe there are device specific plastic inserts you are supposed to buy to insert in this generic holder but that seemed overkill for our use and the several different sized tablets we have.

I've done this and it sits fine. The generic case adjusts up and down and has a spring clip to keep it tight. The middle pic above I showed is mine and doesn't have a case but has the apple keyboard attached which is pretty thin.

Yup, works without a case and it's great you can use the holder for movies and remove it for games etc. Best of all worlds and also looks good. We have the factory system that has never been used ever since my daughter just brings her iPad!

Does the iPad holder swivel side to side? Meaning, would I be able to mount a single iPad and angle it so everyone in the second row can see?

Where is the best place to buy the Universal holder (51952408224)? ShopBMWUSA doesn't seem to sell them anymore.

Cheapest reputable place I’ve found with free shipping is My Bimmer Parts. No affiliation just a happy customer.

They have free shipping for any orders over $99.

Does anyone know what is the minimum length of charging cable required for the ipad with the universal holder? I would like to keep it flush.

I bought 11 inch ipad air 4s and the shortest cable I could get to work in all positions was 12 inches.

I thought 1 feet is good enough. Why do we need 12 inches, is it for holding the iPad in hand?

the issue i have is even with non bmw silicon protectors on ipads they slide in cradle (bouncing of window on alpine hairpins isnt great) and the BMW safety cases are really limited in size - its a greedy design requiring 3 elements to work 100% instead of the 1 piece it could have been.

According to the Apple specifications guide, the 10.2 has identical dimensions as the 2017 iPad Pro 10.5, which does have a safety case available. Based on pictures of the iPad Pro 10.5 it looks like the camera and power buttons are also in the same place, so I think it should work with the Safety case BMW has available.

I've ordered a set of them and will report back with findings.

I want to say thank you to PIPE_DR for the excellent pics. Those pics were 10x more useful than stopping by and talking to the parts desk at my local dealer.

They are totally clueless about this system, which is surprising because it really seems like an excellent solution to backseat entertainment as opposed to the permanently installed system I had in previous generation BMWs, which were extremely cumbersome to use with young kids.
Did anyone ever find out if that pro 10.5 safety holder works with the non pro 10.2? (9th gen)

Seems way overpriced for what it is. Kids will have to hold their iPads (poor things!). Surprised there are no reasonably priced 3P aftermarket options…

Would appreciate if someone can share their findings. Thx.
