Considering the number of those reporting issues, it has not been that many but, I think its enough.

A couple posters on here, who represent a small fraction of worldwide owners, with disabled vehicles is a big deal to me. There should be no circumstance under which that occurs from software updates.

True. This is an optional risk you take with any software update.

I don’t know how the OTA updates are targeted. My car is running with 11/2019.70 version and when I do check update, I get no updates available as response

So I just pulled into work, and as I put my X7 into park I was notified of an available upgrade. I got the notification in both iDrive and on my iPhone. My X7 is currently running 7/2020.35 and the available upgrade is 7/2020.54. Admittedly, I am surprised that it is being pushed to me considering there are several others with older software than me.

I turned off my X7 before it could complete the download, and I am not sure if the download will complete with the X7 off, parked and locked. I did download the upgrade to my iPhone, following the instructions in the Connected app. The download, over cellular data (4G LTE), took less than a minute to complete.

I still have mixed feelings about completing the update given some of the issues reported - albeit only a few. Fortunately, my work is less than 5 min from my house so if my X7 becomes "bricked" it will be safe and I can walk home if necessary . Not sure which upgrade method I will use, but I will probably connect my phone to the car vice have have the X7 download the update.

Of course, my local dealer is only 10 min away so I am tempted to drive to the dealer lot and sit in the parking lot to perform the upgrade...

Same thing happened to me yesterday. I'm currently on 07/2020.30. I believe the update has to upload to the car from the phone before it will install. You can't install the update from the phone.

I'm heading to Seattle shortly and I'm sure during the drive it will do the transfer to the car.

Like you, I'm a bit concerned about doing the update as I think we the customers are BMW's "Beta Testers". I am 110 miles from my dealership and if the car is bricked they will have to come and get it. I might try performing the update tomorrow while the car is parked in the driveway and not in the garage. Of course, I knew all of this going into the purchase of the BMW with all of it's new technology. Still, it does leave me a bit apprehensive.

I've also heard complaints that this update broke the individual Left and Right parking light functionality. Perhaps that was intentional for the US Market as I don't think many people know what the purpose of those are here in the US and probably don't use them much here in the US.

No rhyme or reason

Since owning the car, the app and car have always said no update available. Running a 3/2020 update which I had to go to BMW Corporate to upgrade to get Spotify. Dealer wouldn't do it. No ryhme or reason on who gets these updates and who doesnt.

When was your car built? I thought it may have to do to when the car was built rather than what version software it is running, but both you and mitch57 were running 7/2020.xx already and got a newer 7/2020.xx build.

Haven't see anyone else with older software get the OTA yet.

Well, after a few more short drives yesterday my phone completed the update transfer to the X7. I have the option to install the update any time now. Still not sure when I will do it, but still am considering doing it while parked on my local dealers lot ...

The probability for success should be high based on the very low reported failure rate (i.e. bricked cars). But even the release notes mention if there is a failure you may need support, to including bringing your X7 to the dealer if necessary. The typical legal, CYA stuff....

My X7 was built in Dec 2019 (2020 MY).

I performed the OTA update to 07/2020.54 this morning. It only took 10 minutes for the update to complete and there were no errors after the update.
The only coding I lost was the Alpina dash, the default startup mode, the 5 times for the turn signal indicator, and the welcome lights on in darkness only. Auto Start/Stop (ASS) was not affected by the update and remains off when I start the car.

My February 2020 X7 still has 11/2019 software with no OTA update available.

Why not?

I can answer that - the answer is not without re-coding the modules that lost the custom coding. The software update updates most (and sometimes all) modules in the car. Any module that is updated will have it's coding erased and brought back to original factory settings. There is a coding exception to how this works, but for the purposes of using BimmerCode and most basic coding with E-Sys, what I said above applies.

Upgrading from 07/2020.30 to 07/2020.54 upgrades and recodes HU-MGU, KOMBI, BDC, ZGW, KAFAS, RAM.

Additionally there are a couple of ECU coded but not programmed, but these two are rarely coded by owners and therefore inconsequential.

Did you notice any specific new features or bug fixes? Coming from a similar previous software level, I am not expecting much, if anything will be obvious to the user. My guess is that this update will have more behind the scene fixes.

Still have not done my update yet though....

My car is March 2020, no updates and running on 11/2019 . Is it getting pushed based on built year ?

My car was built in April 2020 (some how it was built while factory was officially shut down for COVID). and it came with 03/2020 from the factory. Still no update. The genius folks told me a few weeks ago that I should expect to see my car get the OTA around the 2nd to 3rd week of November. So if I don't see it by end of next week, they offered to have the dealer update it for free this one time.

There's not enough data right now to determine a pattern on how they are deciding the order to push the updates out to.

I did not see anything new with the update. They didn't fix the RPM display in the HUD for Sports Mode either. Someone else posted this as well. There are some other bugs that may have been addressed. I believe the following bugs are supposed to be addressed with this update.

There is no rhyme or reason. My car is an Feb 2019 build - never been able to get an update available over app or car.
