x7 m50i vs 40i Ride quality

Hello Everyone

I was just wondering has anyone driven the m50i and 50i or 40i Back to Back or experienced them both? I just want to know is there a ride quality difference between the "M" version and the none M ? is the M50i more stiff or less comfortable?

Thank you

Yes, have driven them back to back, and just based on ride quality, no, did not notice any difference, as long as they're equipped the same. (i.e. DHP or not) Difference was power.

Yeah the air suspension makes them all the same. It's only a difference if you step down to an x5 without air suspension do you notice any improvement. Otherwise the air suspension soaks it all up.

Same air on the 7 series as the x7.

Agree, they all have air suspension so this should be same you will see difference in power even between 50i and M50i and handling on corners, the M can really go quite fast on serpentine...

I think the MSport 40i and the M50i ride virtually identical. If you drive the Regular 40i it rides much softer, no comparison. I still prefer my M Sport but there is definitely a difference.

Can someone validate this? I was always told the Msport Pkg is really more of a body kit and there no changes in how it drives? I personally drove a non M sport and found the ride to wobbly and floaty in comfort, sport was better but not great.

They drive exactly the same with the same wheels. M sport is only an appearance package on the X7. The M50i comes with the torque vectoring rear differential which should help with high speed cornering. The dynamic handling package may help the handling in that you can keep the vehicle in sport mode and the vehicle will automatically soften the suspension when it detects rough roads.

I'm pretty sure that's because of the different size wheels. Nowhere on the BMW site does it say the suspension tuning is different on m-sport but maybe someone can confirm with certainty.

Yes, back to back with M50i, 50i, and 40i. Ride quality is somewhat subjective based on the combined experience of the rim size/tires, drive mode, power, etc. The suspension is the same; however, my M50i has DHP, so combining this package with the additional HP/torque makes the M50i feel like a different car to me compared to the 40i. Less compared to the 50i IMO. The ride quality on all models is excellent in all modes.

What About the Adaptive M suspension? doesn't that make a ride quality difference?

DHP is a must if you like sports driving. X7M50 is excellent with DHP and the ride is very comfortable. I miss the raw power and agility of my x6m (it is much smaller) but as a package X7M50 shines. I would not buy any X5, X6 or X7 without DHP

I believe that is only on pure M vehicles. They ride like crap FYI.

Adaptive M suspension isn't available on vehicles with air suspension.
