Why do people flash their lights?

Ok, I've driven a long time and got my 2021 X7 late last year. I usually drive with the lights on Auto and watch the lights change to less intense when there is approaching traffic (and the little blue indicator going off). However, people still sometimes flash their lights? Is it because the X7 front headlights are so awesome? Just wondering. Thanks

My guess, people are not used to see a car with all 4 lamps on.
I've got same issues with all my BMW that have 4 LED lamps.
I just flash back and let them know that I am not on High beam.

Can't recall what this feature you are describing is called, but it can be deactivated. It's nice to have it on "country roads", but I found it pretty annoying in the city. I don't think it turns off fast enough not to annoy the incoming traffic. I stopped using it for that reason.
Found it, it's called high beam assist

They are blindingly awesome!

I’ve driven opposite other BMWs and European vehicles and have never felt their lights are too bright. But then again I’m sitting up pretty high. I would assume it’s mostly sedans or cars flashing you.

I love the high beam assist on the back roads. There’s just too much traffic in the city and they keep going on and off high beam so I turn it off then.

I constantly have people high beam me in my X7. It’s so bad that I actually drive with my hand at the ready to blast my high beams at them when they blast me. Same problem in my wife’s X6.

WOW. The fact that you said you stay armed with your hand on the lever ready to flash them back.....hilarious😂🤣I haven't had mine long enough for it to happen to me yet.

That is odd. I've had my X7 for 14 months and have put 21K miles on it so far. I have NEVER had an oncoming car flash me with their bright lights. Although, I confess, I still have my trigger finger on the trigger ready to blast my high beams at them if they do flash me.

This happens to me a lot too. At least once every time I drive at night. I have high beam assist on too. I know it isn't that, because they don't flash me close enough to it going off.

I sometimes wondered if it was cars warning me about cops but it just happens too often. I think they are just bright and awesome.

I too been driving a lot in back roads without light with the auto high beam assist on. I liked the way how light switches automatically based on oncoming traffic... Not once I was flashed. Interestingly I have flashed couple of time flashed on oncoming cars to switch back from high beam

Everyone just needs to get their X7s coded to do anti-dazzle. I did that, it works better, and no more flashing lights towards me.
