Alpina XB7 Styling Decision?
Does anyone know the back story on why Alpina went with the X7 luxury styling as their starting point vs. MSport? Was the MSport styling even an option for them or did BMW not allow it?

They aim for more distinctive styling which is more apparent with standard versus M Sport trim. https://www.alpina-automobiles.com/e...model-history/ Most of the thinking is you buy BMW ///M for a sharper, pure driving experience and you buy the ALPINA for a more luxurious, more premium go-fast experience - not as hardcore nor as razor sharp as M - which attributes to design philosophy. ALPINA works to "form follows function" engineering and design principle where "Tradition and authenticity are important values of the brand." - ALPINA

I would have really preferred the XB7 be based on the M-sport model, myself. My personal taste, just don't like all that chrome on the X7. I would have been much more likely to consider an XB7 in M-sport

Yes, same here. I'd love to see an Alpina XB7 with MSport styling. But beauty is subjective, as we all know; my family member has an X7 50i luxury and is now considering the XB7. They love the styling and all the chrome.

And there is the dichotomy of the XB7. Many would not order the XB7 option regardless of its price point. Fundamentally if you don’t like the look or styling of the vehicle, the extra badge on the back holds little appeal or additional prestige.

To be honest the looks of the XB7 were not as attractive as the X7M50i, but it has definitely grown on me as it conveys an interesting classy yet sport look.
Does anyone else here think that the Cerium grey accents would have been a better match to the Alpina 23" wheels in the darker grey color rather than chrome? |

I agree, the 23's are good looking wheels but the charcoal gray paint don't go as well with the chrome IMO. I went back and forth about the 23's but when I saw the above Alpina Blue XB7 with the 21's, I was sold and the all-season RF's make more sense living in the NE. Had Alpina painted them in a bright silver, they would work much better with all the chrome and I would have selected them instead.
