Best USB Thumb Drive for X7

The way storage tech has progressed since the original release of the X7, I'm wondering what the best/largest USB thumb drive is, that people have been able to put in their X7, and stream high quality music files from.

The more storage the better, as I have a rather large media library, and want to make the most out of the B&W audio. Much more than the hard drive can hold

Slim form would also be nice, something like this, USB-C would be even better:

What approach do you use to get your media on a device like this? What format are you storing it in to get the most out of the B&W audio?

Well I don't have the car yet. Preparing for the big road trip. I have a lossless audio high-res library, but as somewhat of a compromise of size and data quality, my main library is all ripped as 320Kbps MP3. About 35,000 songs, something like 400GB total library size.

There was another thread on here a while back about streaming audio files on the B&W, but not about the storage drive, as I recall.

Thanks, jsmonet

As a service to the BMW X7 community board here, i will reluctantly offer to host that library, at my own cost, for dissemination to the BMW masses. Please DM me for coordination.

I'm using a USB-device with a high(er) capacity as well. It is a Samsung, 256 GB. However, I'm not sure this is working properly.

When I start the vehicle, the main display shows 'USB device not supported'. However, I can access and play all the files on there.

What I noticed is that the shuffle-feature always returns the identical order of songs. Even if I unplug it and put it back in, I get the same order. I have no idea what is causing this. I think I should try a different USB-stick...

you need it properly formatted. If you're on a mac, it needs to be formatted exFAT. On windows you need to format it FAT32

Mind your 4gb individual file size limits
