Comfort access-dumb question

Should I have the handle sensors and locking ridges on the rear doors?
My 2019 x3 had them on all doors. My lci x7 only has it on the front doors.
Granted it's mitigated by the proximity unlock, but I found it kind of strange that it wasn't present on the 23

They removed them for LCI. I confirmed this, the user manual also indicates the lock/unlock is only on the front doors.

thats annoying. thanks for the confirm.
the genius setup my profile at the dealer ship but it was fubar, would not stay logged in so it kept defaulting to opening only the drivers door (guest profile) deleting it fixed that but it was kinda a bummer that they removed it. the proximity lock/unlock is ok, but in the past when i had a loaner with it, it was sometimes flaky.

On this topic, two questions/points:

1. You said it's not a big deal with proximity unlocking. I had to turn that off immediately as I found it offensive. I detailed that in my delivery post, but in summary, I came home from the dealer, I was putting personal belongings in, all-weather mats, etc. I left the engine running because it was so hot out, but every time I got out of the car, it would honk the horn 2-3 times (VERY loud) because the engine was running or a door was open. Even if I left my phone in the car, my Apple Watch would cause it to do the same. Secondarily, I found that even if I walked down the hallway near the door to my garage, I'd hear the car unlock, even though I was still in another room (our laundry room shares a wall with the garage). Are you finding any of these issues?

2. I turned on Unlock All Doors, but I'm having this issue where when I exit the car from the driver door, I can't open the rear doors. I have to go back and touch the front door to unlock all doors. Maybe I'm missing a setting, but it seems when you park and shut the engine off, the doors don't unlock. I need to look through the system to see if there's a setting for that.

1) I think it honks any time you leave the car with the keys and the engine is running. My X3 did that with reg comfort access. it was one of the first things i coded off. unfortunately i cant do that (i dont think) on the X7.
the lock distance seems to be a decent radius. i have to be about 10 or 15 feet away to trigger the lock. in the city my parking garage is a few blocks from our apartment so i havent experienced the walk by unlock.

2) theres a setting to unlock at end to trip and when put into park. are yours toggled on? this was giving me a fit along with the unlock all doors toggle, the car would not keep me logged in ( i think this is asinine btw, that they have it tied to an online account) it kept defaulting to guest which would have all those options unticked so it would only unlock the drivers door

Thanks, I came back to report I found the "Unlock at end of trip". There's also unlock when in P. I do credit the car as most settings are available!

For #1, that's not what I observed, but it's possible I left the second key as I had just come from the dealer. I'm going to play with it. To alleviate the annoyance of unlocking, I turned proximity unlock on, but have left proximity locking off.

It's awesome to have you contributing, I felt like I was the only person I could get feedback from! Keep sharing any gems you find!

Is there a physical manual too, or just the pdf version? Presume the former but just checking. As much as control F has aided my work life, I do like to manipulate something physical when dealing with anything north of 20 pages.

The problem with these convenience features is that they try to guess and anticipate your intentions, but miss the mark half the time. My first car required a metal key be physically inserted into driver-side door and turned, and door lock posts on each of the other 3 doors had to manually pushed down or pulled up. Hardly convenient, but the car never argued with me, or was confused about what I wanted. Biggest advantage? Pushing a button on a key fob once or twice to unlock one or all the doors doesn't seem all that barbaric. I haven't messed with all these other convenience locking/unlocking variations. IMO, all this convenience that lets you focus on more important matters in life also lets you forget you left your kid or dog in the back seat as you walk across the car-park on the way to your office with your cellphone in one hand and Starbucks in the other, while assured that your car has locked itself.

i'm weighing the end of journey vs P... NYC being the wonderful place it has become, do i want it unlocking by itself just in park?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world...KFR_story.html
extreme example, but unintended consequences

i might turn it off and see how annoying it is with end of journey. i can already see parking to take my kid out of his seat
walking around to his door and cursing when its still locked. since they removed the sensors in the handle its going to be pressing the button on the remote

I don't remember where I found this but it works.

For the passenger and rear doors you need to pull the handle twice. Most of the time you pull it once and when it does not open you look for the keys or the driver to unlock the doors again.

Just pull the handle twice.

You can specify if you want it to unlock automatically in P, when engine off or not at all. I chose just Off rather than P.

yup, thats what i had it set to. annoying thing was, and this is where the comfort access on the rear doors was good , is when i would go to get my son out of his seat on my X3. i could get out of the car, walk around to the rear door, and it would open. now if i dont remember to hit the unlock button on the door, i need to go digging for the remote (and i ask why did bmw make the ring loop on the key too small for any normal keyring to go through, the cynical side says to sell more of their key cases, job done, i ordered two).
I switched it to unlock on P. Since im paranoid in addition to cynical
i will likely remember to lock the doors if im going to be idling in park.

i think he's talking about from the inside..... when the doors are locked (door pin down) the first pull of the interior handle releases the lock, the second release the latch (for lack of a better description)

Rear doors on my '22 M50i unlock the same as the front doors. Really like the rear hatch kick open feature for when I have cases of wine under each arm.

23 has the kick feature, but I’m really struggling to get it to work without multiple tries.

Now that I’m using the new UWB Comfort Access for both Lock and Unlock, the lack of rear handle unlock is pretty much a non-issue.

UWB is no different than having the key fob. You still cannot open the rear door without unlocking all doors

This seems like a major cost cutting move by BMW for the X7.This should not happen for a BMW at this price. Why would they remove it on a 7 series vehicle and keep it on the MY23 3 series M340i LCI.

It’s different with the phone. If enabled, the car will auto-unlock entirely when you’re within 3 feet of the car, it’ll auto-lock when you step 6’ away. I may not have the distances exact, but it’s something like that. This effectively removes the need for anything to operate on the door handle except the mechanical opening of the door. That was my point. Perhaps that’s the reason BMW decided to remove the rear doors.

As a previous Tesla owner, I really enjoyed not having a key fob and the car just unlocking and locking on its own without any need for sensors or buttons.

The car will also auto unlock when you approach the vehicle and auto-lock when you walk away with the key fob.

As a previous Tesla owner, I really enjoyed not having a key fob and the car just unlocking and locking on its own without any need for sensors or buttons.
Is there a geo zone feature to the comfort access? Ie don't do it at home?

What setup do you guys use that you find the most useful relative to comfort access etc.

Thanks
