I just picked up my 2020 40i today. It has tons of power. Not sure why I would ever need a bigger engine. To me it does not feel like I am driving a large vehicle. I didn’t even have it in sport mode. Towing would be the only reason I would need a V8. And I do not plan on using mine to tow a fifth wheel or large travel trail or. As I assume most people aren’t either..

Was curious about this, too.......we have the 3.0 Q7 now so if the 40i is the same then it will be good.

I just could never drive, say, a 540i over my M550i just because I come from mostly M's and AMG's......but I just can't see the argument for going with the 50i X7 over the 40i....not on such a huge SUV. I drive the cars completely different (Q7 vs M550).

I don't think we will be feeling much of a difference.

Even the range should stay the same. Slightly smaller fuel-tank on the X7 but also slightly better MPG-rating on the X7...

BMW is very conservative on released number of their engine. 50i engine, which is the same one in M550i, puts out 539 HPs and 589 LBFT, according to Dinan.

I can only assume the same for the B58 engine. Dinan measured 381 HPs and 401 LBFT.

Definitely has to make a little more than they say. I'm bummed though... even though I have the staggered 22's, they set the governor at ~130mph. Mine stops pulling at indicated 132. It's still pulling good at 130, so I would imagine it could easy do 150's.

Yep, I did the same test on my 50i as well. I have 22 summer tire and the limiter kicked in at 132mph.

I believe there is away to remove it. Going through all of these ESYS code...

Also, a nice tuning will be able to remove the limiter, as well.
