TL_Boy, your brother-in-law was well within his rights to fire them. Of course a lawyer might disagree, but skip work for no good reason and get fired.

Now that being said how many University of Houston grads do you think will be applying job? How many Longhorns Grads will be applying for those jobs? None, chances are that your brother-in-law will hire more Mexicans. Why because working for a cleaning services although honorable work is what most English speaking people in this country don't want.

I said before we are missing the boat on the real issue. We shouldn't be up in arms about jobs paying $5/Hr. It is the others jobs that Corporate American is moving overseas that is really killing us.

I am Consultant,

1) I just finished a project so that Hospital in New England can have their X-rays read by people over in India and Australia!

2) I also completed another project IP Telephony so that a Bank can have it's call center communication sent over to India.

How many of the product we buy here is actually assembled here? Hell even BMW threw the US a bone by having the X5 and I think Z4 assembled here in the USA. Wake up. talk to your congressmen, that s what needs to be our real focus.

What if the national anthem was done in sign language? Is that OK??? Or does it absolutely positively have be sang in American, like Mr. Bush says. (That would be English Mr. President!)

Ok if you don’t like immigrant coming to the United States trying to get a better life like most of our forefathers or people from other countries coming here. Then I say you can’t drive their awesome engineered automobiles too. So give back your BMW’s folks and buy American.

Thats missing the boat FeeBear. Outsourcing is not what this issue is about. Its about people who don't pay taxes, are not documented using services that is being paid by citizens. Its not about nationalism (at least thats what I'm getting from this), its about fair share.

I honestly don't know enough about both sides to argue who is right and who is wrong, but I think both sides have valid points.

My brother in law didn't even tell the GM to fire people who don't show up. She, a mexican-american, decided that. Of course college graduates won't apply for those jobs, but the thing is, even Mexican American citizens were protesting, it wasn't just the illegals. I even saw German and Indian flags in the protest marches...

I think that it is a irresponsible thing to do (to not show up to the company that you work for, which damages your company, for what, to make a statement for one day?). That one day can screw up things for weeks. Lets say they didn't show up, the rooms would be dirty, customers would complain, and my brothers franchises would suffer. Then, they expect to come back on Tuesday and find a job?

nope. I'm going to call him today to see how it turned out.

One more thing, there's nothing worse than people with privilege whining about how other people are gonna come and take their jobs and F#$ing toys away. Never mind sharing the pie with the rest of the human race. You can only truly give away what you truly own. Otherwise it never belonged to you.

BTW… I used to like this forum!

this is a sensitive topic, as are many political topics.

Some of the posts seem to be on the verge of racism, which is wrong, and a lot of stereotypes and generalizations, which is ignorance.

First, separate illegals from legals.

Quite frankly, I don't see as much b*tching going on about our 250BN a year military budget, which is being payed by our taxes, and is almost a total loss. I'm sure that figure is a lot higher than the amount these 'illegals' are reaping from our system.

I knew someone who was killed on Sept. 11, 2001 in the World Trade Center. Another good friend was a close call and eye witness to the whole thing. I can hear the words "terrorist", "Osama Bin Laden", "United Airlines", "Ground Zero", all without having a hissy fit. What shim said had nothing to do with remembering the Holocaust for what it was or to tarnish the memory or disrepect the victims. Let's all try to grow some skin, shall we?

Again, I am not saying immigration isn't an issue but that in the long run outsourcing will be a bigger issue.

You are from Texas, which do you think hurt my college grads, Company like Dell moving a large portion of their jobs overseas and MCI and HP doing the same or poor immigrant taking mininum wage jobs. Which if you really think about if they did pay taxes most of it would probably be returned to them because they would most likely by in the poverty level?

These are not people I personally know, but received this from a friend (who happens to also be a member of this forum).

This email is from a retired former co-worker of mine, whose wife is a teacher in the Riverside area, and has been for many many years. The attached is first hand knowledge...

As you all listen to the news about the student protests over illegal immigration there are some things that you should be aware of.

As most of you know my wife is in charge of the English-as-a-second-language department at a large southern California high school, which is designated a Title 1 school, meaning that its students average lower socio economic and income levels. Most of the schools you are hearing about-South Gate High, Bell Gardens, Huntington Park, etc.-where these students are protesting, are also Title 1 schools.

My wife tells me that 100% of the students in her school and other Title 1 schools are on the free breakfast, free lunch program. When I say free breakfast I'm not talking a glass of milk and roll...

but a full breakfast and cereal bar with fruits and juices that would make a Marriott proud. The waste of this food is monumental, with trays and trays of it being dumped in the trash uneaten.**

She estimates that well over 50% of these students are obese or at least moderately overweight. About 75% or more DO have cell phones.**

The school also provides day care centers for the unwed teenage pregnant girls (some as young as 13) so they can attend class without the inconvenience of having to arrange for babysitters or having family watch their kids.

She was ordered to spend $700,000 on her department or risk losing funding for the upcoming year even though there was little need for anything; her budget was already substantial. She ended up buying new computers for their computer learning center; half of which, one month later, have been carved with graffiti by the appreciative students who obviously feel humbled and grateful to have a free education in America.

She has had to intervene several times for young and substitute teachers whose classes consist of many illegal immigrant students here in the country less then 3 months who raised so much hell with the female teachers, calling them "Putas"-whores-and throwing things that the teachers were in tears.

Free medical, free education, free food, day care etc., etc., etc. Is it any wonder they feel entitled to not only be in this country but to demonstrate for rights, privileges and entitlements? (THINK ABOUT
THAT?????)

Why do you dislike it now? I think it's great that we've got people all over the spectrum on this issue. And for the most part, we've all been courteous and responsible with our posts. Not everyone's going to agree with every comment here, but that's what makes this forum great. The fact that we can have 7 pages with almost no cursing or flaming of others' responses makes me happy I've got a place to discuss things of this nature.

Even if you are on one side of an issue, if you can understand why the other side takes their stance the way they do, you learn even more. Knowing everything you can about an issue makes you a responsible person.

with all due respect, a lot of us knew someone who was killed that day, or was affected in some way.

Every year is 9/11 in places like Kashmir or Israel (Hindus/Jews dying at the hands of terrorists). I can understand THOSE people being sensitive. I know a Kashmiri Hindu girl. She doesn't talk about the situation, it was so bad. (btw, something like 60-80 THOUSAND people have died the past 15 years).

Feebear, again though its not apples to apples. On one hand you have high skilled labor alternatives at a lower price. On the other hand you have, what some are claiming here, free loaders.

That is a different issue that would need its own discussion.

No problems FeeBear. One thing I would say is I like the way you're engaging respectfully, and not name calling. I can't comment who's right or not, but i will say there is a lot of misinformation on here.

Exactly. We are talking about ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION for those of you who can't read. NOT LEGAL IMMIGRANTS FROM MEXICO OR CHINA OR CUBA OR GHANA ETC.

I guess I was too naive to think that BMW owners would have some kind of thinking ability.
