I test drove two 335i's at two different dealers. I also test drove both a 6MT M3 and a DCT M3...both were owned already by members on this forum and were out of their break in. I ended up getting a DCT M3!

Ordered first drive later. I knew I wanted this bad boy from the get go.

I test drove one earlier this year at the Ultimate Drive event.

I test drove a manual and DCT before I ordered. I had to wait 2 months before the dealer had a DCT I could test drive but it was worth waiting for. I ended up ordering the DCT.

There are plenty on lots in SoCal. You should be able to get a test drive. I drove it twice, first time I was impressed but I didn't really push it. Make sure you put the car in all the highest "sport" settings. My second test drive was in the Susan Komen car, where I got to wring it out a bit more. The car is very balanced but after a 2nd look at it, I decided to go with the C63. and keep my Evo of course
Then swamp gave me a ride in his DCT car. At full throttle and redline shifts, it's very impressive. Good luck.

Had to beg for a test drive. When the sales manager realized I was REALLY serious at my second visit, he let me drive the M3 and an M6. I was the first person to drive their M3.

I had driven a lot of cars in my search for the latest one. After driving an Evo for so long, it's hard to find something that doesn't feel "dead." The M3 felt good. It definitely feels heavier though. But that can be a good thing depending on what you're using the car for. The M3 doesn't feel nervous like the Evo can.

Lame salesman. My salesman saw me looking at the car in the showroom and immediately offered me a test drive. I didn't even tell him I was interested in the car but he seemed eager to take me for a spin. I originally went into the dealership intending to buy a 535. Test driving the M3 was a big mistake. I can't wait until my order comes in now.

I test drove the M3 I ordered when it arrived. I liked it. So I bought it.
That's usually my routine. I almost always desire the newest thing out there so test drives before ordering are often not possible. There's only one car I've ever ordered but ended up backing out on. A Lotus Exige S. Great car but a 10-minute test drive when it arrived made me realize that I could've live with it anywhere else other than on a track.

I was set on a 911 for a while too.... It was actually the fact I could by an M3 for much less and get four years free maintenance that really did it for me...

I didn't have that opportunity, since my oder was finalized in January. Heck, I didn't even know how much it would cost! But after 3+ years on the preorder list and reading everything avialable, I knew I would not be disappointed.
