2022 M50i Startup Rattle

From what I understand, the rattling noise at startup is pretty common across the entire BMW lineup. I assume it's a loose heat shield or something along those lines. Is repair for something like this covered under factory warranty?

Is it something like rattle/knock you hear from the front end, liek around front wheels? Mine did the same thing. Talked to my SA when gaskets were changed, and said everyhing is normal and that is just how the car sounds when cold. Since CPO expired I had my local indy change oil to 5-40 Motul and the start up rattle is much less noticable.

Added a link to the video. No knocking or anything related to the engine.

My XB7 has the same thing. Sounds like a heat sheild too close to the exhaust. I also hear it under acceleration at a very specific RPM. Especially if I’m under a viaduct, etc.

Dealer confirmed they could hear it, but had no clue how to diagnose/fix. ☹️

Same cold startup rattle on my '22 m50. Hear it for a second then disappears. Motor sounds and drives great otherwise, no oil consumption either. 37k miles.

I also have a 22 m50 and noticed this right after taking delivery when I bought it new. I brought it up to my SA and he stated it was normal. Still does it today, but doesn't seem to have caused any issues.

I hear a very similar rattle only when I let off the gas in S/S+ mode, but the strangest thing is that, I have no rattles when I'm idle nor if I gas it while parked or in neutral; I only hear this same tinny rattle when letting off the gas while car is in motion. I brought it to the dealer twice and second time, they test drove 2 other 21-22 X7 M50s and claimed the sound is normal and its due to their exhaust flap/valve design. Otherwise, car is amazing, good power, drives great, but just rattles when im decelerating, very frustrating.

Probably exhaust valves. Put your ear near the tailpipe when you fire it up

My 2019 40i does it too. Glad to hear it's normal, hah.

Absolutely not the case. It’s the sound of metal vibrating against another piece of metal. Likely a heat shield.

I initially thought it was the valves but I installed the Dinan exhaust valve modules and have them opened 100% all the time, and it still makes that sound.

I also thought it may be heatshields since the 3 piece heatshielding around the exhaust are not anchored or screwed down, they kinda of just lay on top of each other; so I went ahead and epoxied the 3 pieces together on their edges; And I still get the rattle! I'm wondeing now if the rattle is coming from inside the muffler/exhaust. It's driving my batshit crazy cuz i brought it to the dealer twice and both times theyve told me theyve tested other M50s and they all have the rattle when you let off the gas
