Comfort Access (Exclude Home)

The Comfort Access (Exclude Home) feature appears to be broken in the newest OTA (07/2025.38) software update. The menu option to “Exclude Home” is still in the menu, but my XM Label keeps unlocking every time I walk by it in the garage with my iPhone or Apple Watches like it used to do before the previous OTA software update.

Update: Yup, it’s all effed up now.

My XM Label is going in for an oil change next month, so I’ll push them to install 10/2025.xx which is now available to the dealers. OTA updates are always 3-4 months behind the newest release.

There’s some chatter about it working again if you delete, re-set, and drive around. Haven’t tested though.

That’s a royal pain in the *ss though (especially with 4+ devices), but I might do it anyway if it proves to work. Thanks.

I mean re-set home address, not your entire idrive.

I noticed the same thing after mine updated...and was really po'd at it. But I went into the settings and turned the 'Home' setting Off, then turned it back 'On'.

Seems to be working fine again as it doesn't keep unlocking every time I walk by the garage with my phone.

I tried that twice a few days ago and it came back almost immediately.

"Exclude Home" malfunction with software update.

Well, thought of sharing my experience so far with the "Exclude Home" malfunction with the newest software update. The 7/2025 software update for my 750e came first. After the update it took away the function of "Exclude Home". I talked to the dealership and to the BMW direct help desk. NO real solution is recommened from either sources. I then went ahead myself to first reboot the iDrive 8.5. Problem not resolved. Then I went through the iDrive Navigation icon and deleetd all favorite addresses, including home. Rebooted the iDrive by the long press of the volume bitton. I also deleted the home address from the BMW App. I then re-enter the home address. With the 750e it started functioning fine. However, the same software update came for my Alpina XB7 last weekend. Same issues reoccured. I repeated all all steps I have done with the 750e. The trouble still persist. But I think partially I got some success from the steps I followed. Now the welcome lights are coming on when I walked to the Alpina with my iPhone at home but the doors are not unlocking automatoically. I am still working on it with some other thoughts to see whether I can fix it. If I get any robust resoltuion, I shall come back and report.

Will try this, thanks! This bug has been highly annoying--car is constantly unlocking itself at my place as I walk around with the dog etc.

Just as a follow-up to my previous attempts to fix the "Exclude Home" provision malfunction after the recent software update, finally I fixed it with my Alpina XB7. None of the above attempts worked with Alpina. So as a final attempt, steps I took are the following and it fixed it.
First, I deleted my home address from the i-Drive, deleted the home address from the "Favorite" menu. Deleted the same from the BMW App. Unchecked the "Exclude Home under Comfort Access. Reboot eh iDrive by press and holding the volume knob. Then while driving (this is very important because while parking mode nothing gets reset), I went in to the "System Setting" and gone down in the menu for system update/ service update and clicked it while driving. Once that process is completed, again while driving, under the same system setting, I clicked on software update. Then I have given an audio command to "Hello BMW" take me home. Response was " Sorry I don't know your home address". Then I asked "hello BMW" to take me home by audio recording my home address. The address popped up and I clicked. When I reached home, I went in and re-checked "Exclude Home". That fixed it. What a pain. I called BMW help desk multiple times, but they said they are working on it and so far, no fix! Hope this helps you all whoever is facing the same trouble.

I brought mine into the dealer yesterday for a collection of issues (including sudden braking while on the highway) this was one of them.

During the initial summary video provided by the Technician (very helpful, btw) he mentioned this being a known issue and was updating the software with what is expected to be a fix. I'll find out whether this gets resolved when I get my vehicle back...but that's not expected for a week+ given the quantity of issues being addressed.

Mine is going in for an oil change and to deal with that brake recall, so I’m going to ask my service advisor about this too. I’d hate to wait another 4 months for the next OTA update.

About a week ago, the "Exclude Home" started working again, perfectly. I touched nothing, there car received no additional OTA updates.

The only thing that could have changed is they could have updated the BMW app on my phone, don't know if that could have had an effect? Everything is working perfectly now.

BMW does have the ability to update apps and services in the vehicle without doing an entire OTA update. It’s been working for me for the past few days as well.
