Heads up display
What anyone's take on the HUD? I have not had it for a few cars, and I don't frankly miss it. Navigation instructions would be good, but are not displayed on the main dash behind the wheel anyway?
I would not add it for $1100, but rather the via premium package with the rear shades. |

I miss it when I drive a vehicle without it. Some navigation info is displayed, though not as much detail is the dash. It will show entertainment choices as you scroll through them, speed, speed limit, etc.
Without it I find myself looking at the dash far longer than I'd like, looking at some of the info the HUD shows. After having it on a car a few years back, I added to my wife X5. She was not all in for it at the time....now it is a must for her (and me). |

I agree with Tattooed. I never thought about HUD until I had it and having had it on several cars, I miss it when I drive a vehicle without it. It seems much safer to look at it rather than the instrument cluster. I am glad my X7 has it and it is pretty good compared to some others.

Im going to say it depends. Im ordering the X7 for my wife/kids. So the more safety features the better. If it was for me personally i prefer no hud and no driving assist features at all. Wifes current xc90 has hud so does my dads 750 that i got him of which i drive both regularly and often. I had a 2013 m5 with it as well. I dont miss it one bit in my current daily driver

Most of the time I use google or Waze maps via CarPlay And those maps guidance will not appear in the HUD. I currently have HUD on my EScalade and us it very sparingly. On long trips I will be using antonoumous cruise so no need to continuously look at the odometer. I elected not to get the premium package, instead I got remote start and the HK sound system and saved about $2k

HUD is a must have for this household. We wouldn't get a BMW without it. It's just too useful and keeps my eyes on the road for things like Nav directions and speed limits.

I love the HUD. I rarely use it for Navigation but most often use it to check on the speed limit info and also to see how close I am to the redline in the M mode !

Heads up display
I got it in premium package. The display is huge and crystal clear. It can relay just about anything you want onto windshield. Even the Theme changes on hud in different driving modes. It's pretty cool, just messes with my eyes at night

I guess its a MUST for any and all cars. Worths each penny. As always, if you dont like, turn it off. Maybe other household members would like it.
However, my dealer sold me a windshield protection package for $399. He said that if the windshield gets cracked and needed a replacement, after market windshields might not work properly to display HUD on them. The display could be distorted on them. Only BMW genuine windshield would make it and it would cost around $1800 to have it replaced with BMW. |

My insurance uses Safelite also and they handle the claim. They also tell you you can use the shop of your choice to do the repair. The key is for you to pay out of pocket and get remembered. Safelite will strong arm the shops if they deal directly with them. They can’t force you to use aftermarket parts.

Yes as long as you have comprehensive coverage but they do go through safelite but you don’t have to use them you can use the shop of your choice. It’s better for you to deal with insurance and get reimbursed. This way they don’t force the shop to use an aftermarket windshield.

X2. You have to get it. By far the sharpest HUD I have ever used. The color navigation maps projected was all I needed for complex driving directions. IMO, the HUD almost eliminated me having to ever look at my gage cluster or iDrive screen on long road trips.
Bad pic but gives you a idea. The color pops out at you in real life. |
