12v Cooler

Can anyone recommend a 12v fridge/cooler/icebox that is a good fit in the X7 with all seats in their normal positions? This would be handy for grocery shopping (living in a hot country means I can't get home in time to keep things cool/frozen) but also for trips and holidays to keep picnic stuff fresh.

Looking online I've seen them at $50 and $2000 as well as all shapes, sizes and door orientations...

I'd appreciate any suggestions...

Would also love a recommendation for this!

Great question, hopefully someone can point out a good one. BMW has a smaller cool box option.

I can highly recommend the ARB fridges. Also strongly suggest the optional cover for them. For "all-round", I suggest the 63qt. I can't imagine life without one and we've used through 3 generations of X5 and will now grab and X7 later this year. We supplement with an ARKPAK with a huge battery and can run the fridge for 5 - 7 days without needing to recharge (depending on how hot the interior gets). Or, use a smaller battery and just start the vehicle up and recharge. Hope this helps.

OUTSTANDING post, peakjunkie and thanks for the suggestions! Have the ARB on my Amazon wish list now, and a backup battery.

Thanks - this is a great help. Now I have to figure our whether I have anywhere local I can get it. Shipping fees on that bad boy are not going to be insignificant!

Based you your experience - do you reckon the 63qt fwould it into the trunk with all X7 seats folded up? I want to be able to leave it there at all times, powering up only when needed.

Silly question but is this the kind of think you only use when parked and the back is opened up? I presume these fridges will generate a lot of heat so using it while driving in an enclosed car might not be ideal...

Actually khai Dow since you're so much closer to Australia than the US, I would have guessed you can find it cheaper than us!

I was wondering similar sorts of things. Here's the Amazon webpage for the 63 Qt fridge:
https://smile.amazon.com/ARB-1080160...a-1b733026af4f

Exterior dimensions listed as 33.27"L x 17.72"W x 16.85"H. I don't remember the X7 trunk dimensions, 3rd row up or down.

Another good question. I haven't seen this addressed anywhere as I've been researching the ARB. But lots and lots of people saying they run these while driving, so presumably they are both quiet enough, and don't generate excessive heat that the vehicle temperature control can't keep up with.

If I get one, it will be for the purpose of running while driving. Keep family snacks and drinks cold. And even keep fridge and frozen items super cold when coming back from the grocery store.

I've thought that, if I were to do it, I'd actually install it behind the 2nd row, with 3rd row down, and backwards, so that the kids could turn around from the captain's chairs, and easily lift the lid and reach in for a cool beverage.

... for dad, of course.

I ordered a Dometic CFX 65W 61 liters.
It's Due to arrive tomorrow, and I will be using it on a family road trip over this coming week.
I will report back on how it worked when I get back.

You’ve probably forgotten by now - but did you get it and how did it work out?

I bought Domestic CFX3 35 and a battery to run along with it for our road trip and it worked like a charm. Details of the trip are here https://g07.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...38;postcount=1
