I guess if nothing crazy happens from here on, my vehicle will be ready at the dealer on 2/15 for sure....

X7 40i Ordered!

Ordered yesterday and I can't wait! They're telling me it should be delivered around the end of February. I did a lot of research on these forums before shopping around, and wanted to say thanks to everyone that has shared their experience getting the best deal.

I may have missed this elsewhere, but how long does it usually take to get a production number from the dealer so that I can start tracking the build?

Ordered on 1/31/20:

--== 2020 X7 xDrive40i ==--

M Sport
Carbon Black Metallic
22" V-spoke bi-color black wheels, style755M with performance runflat tires
Ivory White/Night Blue Full Merino Leather
Fineline Stripe Brown High Gloss Wood Trim
—————
Options
—————
Cold Weather Package
Executive Package
Luxury Seating Package
Parking Assistance Package
Leather Dashboard
Second-Row Captain's Chairs
Trailer Hitch

I got the number from my dealer after we ordered. Like instantly. But didn't get the VIN for 6 weeks.

Getting TO the second dot is not the issue - moving FROM there is all that matters.

Lol good point.

The wait has given me time to research leasing. A lot of my buddies are saying I should seeing as I move cars a lot. I’ve never leased before and the language is foreign to me.

Ordered mine on 01/29/20, as of the 31st I'm on dot number 3!! Very excited. I usually lease from a broker and I'm trying to get it before or very close to the Feb 22(wife's bday). My broker seems to have come through as production begins and already has a vin assigned.

Very nice! Congratulations on your order! Mine is a purchase rather than a lease. I'm in for the long haul. Hopefully mine will move to the third dot this week and gets a VIN as well.

I guess my color TB is causing mine to be delayed? That’s what the dealership is saying.

Rule of thumb is if you switch vehicles at least every three years and you are not driving more than 15k miles/year, leasing is the way to go (unless the lease deals are very bad which is not what BMW is known for).

And of course, the more options you load onto the vehicle, the more attractive leasing gets. After all, you are only paying a part of them.

On my current Audi Q7, the lease numbers were actually terrible but I still decided to lease because mine, at $88K, was pretty loaded. Difference in payment between lease and finance was only $100 (usually, it's much higher).

I will be turning in my Audi in less than two weeks and although I only have 9K miles of the 30K allowed on it, I would be upside down by at least $15K if I would try to sell or trade it in.

Now, I can just drop it off and have somebody else (Audi Financial) worry about that. THAT'S what I like about leasing..

That’s actually incredibly helpful. I fit that category to a T. I’ve always been a cash guy and after some research and frankly talking with you guys it makes sense. My Accountant said the same thing. Thank you for that write up. Now I just need someone to look at the numbers and tell me where to peg the dealership.

It took me a while to figure out how leasing works. When I finally figured out that I like a new car with the latest tech every two years it looked like leasing was the way to go. When I talked to my dealer about it the first think they asked is how much do I drive. When I said 25,000+ a year they said forget about it. The miles will not make it worth it.

Any thoughts on that scenario?

Unfortunately, they are spot on.

The first issue is that BMW FS is probably not even offering such a mileage (I believe 15K is the max) and in that case, all your savings would be eaten up by the penalty you would have to pay for the extra mileage.

Your cost to lease would be nowhere near to the numbers you are seeing here. I def. recommend financing.

You can start right here:

https://g07.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...570399&page=32

You can also get the important numbers (Residual Value & Money Factor & potential Rebates) right here. just post your model, ZIP and lease term (months/miles per year) you are aiming for:

https://forums.edmunds.com/discussio...-and-prices/p5

And finally, if you got all the numbers, punch them in here:

https://www.calculator.net/auto-lease-calculator.html

And of course, you can always ask over here...

Now what? I'm pretty sure we're not going to a port.
I got so excited to see that dot hustle to the right on Saturday, I figured it would keep on trucking.
If I dispatched from factory on Sunday morning when do you think it'll be in Chicago?
