(Wireless) Android Auto coming in July

I'd say this is good news - and about time:

It definitely makes good business sense for BMW to finally support wireless Android Auto. And BTW, your 2020 X7 M50i build is awesome. When is it due?

Thanks!

I'm not sure when it will be built (so far, no tracking updates) but I know for sure that - if everything goes as planned - will be picking it up on February 15th. That's when my lease expires and I'm going to drop off my Q7 at my local dealer. It's very convenient that both dealerships are directly next to each other and belong to the same family.

I am glad to hear this good news. My wife is Apple user and I am Samsung. So can't wait to use the Android Auto apps.

Thank you for sharing.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to this as well. I never owned any Apple-phones and I currently have a Samsung S9+.

Initially, I did not understand what BMW was doing. So you have the option to get into your vehicle without a key which was only possible with a (Samsung) Android phone and once you made it into the vehicle, it was tailored to Apple.

Yes I tried setting up the key less entry NFC with my Samsung S10+, mine was not supported because I was with Verizon.. I did that few months ago when I just bought the car. I haven't done that recently.

Also I don't understand why BMW dropped Google Assistant, it was working fine a month ago, but now they added Alexa and in the BMW Connected Apps you only see Alexa and no Google Assistant. That sucks...

I have the same phone and carrier and tried yesterday. No dice.

Is Alexa now working IN the vehicle (press a button and say 'Alexa,......') or is it just on the App where you can start or lock/unlock the vehicle remotely through Alexa.

BMW promised a full in-vehicle Alexa integration for a while now so I'm curious if it's finally here...

You can do all the functions you listed using BMW Connected Apps. I was using Google Assistant for limited status and I think commands to BMW without the apps. I am sure you can do similar with Alexa. Just got BMW Connected Apps and select HUB and next link to Alexa.

Here is my previous post on this including Alexa setings

Thanks!

I was actually referring to this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJcgJyjnJfA

I don't see much sense in Alexa integration in the vehicle when it's limited to the already available App-commands. Why would I want to remote-start and lock/unlock a vehicle I'm already sitting in?

Turning on the lights at home/opening the garage etc. is what I want...

If the article is accurate, it will be available as an update to all vehicles with iDrive 7.0:

'Android Auto in a BMW will be demonstrated live for the first time at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2020 and will be available for customers in 20 countries from July 2020 for all vehicles with BMW Operating System 7.0.'

I did read that we could download the camera Apps once they release it. It's still in the early stages I think.

I love wireless CarPlay and wouldn't buy another vehicle without it. Our previous Mercedes GLS 550 supported wired CarPlay but I found it to be a hassle to plug my iPhone every time I jumped in the car, even for a quick trip to the store and back. Even the 2020 GLS requires a wired connection (big miss for MB IMO). Those of you with Android phones are gonna love having a wireless connection. Of course you'll still have to put up with the Android OS but that's for another forum.

I think this function is already included on 2020 builds no? I did get the last system update for my 2019 when I brought it in for service, the menu icons changed along with 'experience my car' or something along those lines, but no dash cam function.

Yes, it is. It's also listed as standard feature on my 2020 M50i order on myBMW.

Mine is also 2019, for us it's going to be an option for download and I am sure there will be some cost.

I am scheduled for oil change this Thursday and we will do a software updated as well. I will know what else is updated.

I'm thinking we might be able to code it once the smart people figure it out.

Same here... came off from a GLS550 and not to forget about the main screen being locked to CarPlay once the iPhone is connected. We can't access the menu's of Mercedes anymore or it's features like maps or other stuff.
The Mercedes Me App is the worst in the industry, no wonder it has worse ratings. The circle keeps rotating forever and finally crashes. Remote start never worked properly (less than 25% of the time in 3 yrs).

It's been less than a week and the remote start from App works flawlessly on X7, within few seconds. Upon entering, engine doesn't shutdown unlike Mercedes.
