Dealer Recommended Services
Just had my '21 X7-40i 40,000 mile service done at local BMW dealer. The service rep recommended Front and Rear Differential Fluid replacement ($406.21 and $463.18), Transfer Case Fluid replacement ($466.60), and Fuel Injection Service ($503.99).
BMW's Maintenance "Booklet" states the Rear Axle and Transfer Case Fluid is replaced at 50,000 miles for all M models, but NOT for non-M models. Elsewhere in the "Booklet" transmission fluids are stated to be "Long-Term Rated Fluids that are to be replaced only when repairs are performed". Nowhere is there mention of a Fuel Injection Service, which to my old ears is a long time scam. Any ideas on where I can find any other BMW information on this?? I'd also like to find BMW email contacts for service questions, if they are available. |

It's lifetime fluid, you don't need to replace it. Unless you're doing something intense like frequently towing heavy trailers. Or if you're planning on keeping the car for >10 years / very high mileage, in that case get a drain and refill (not flush) of the fluids.

Which Dealer
Your profile says you're in Seattle, if you don't mind, which dealer offered you these 'services'? East or West of Lake Washington?
I gave up on the Seattle dealership due to issues with Sales and Delivery of new X5, but the service dept seemed less 'sketchy' than the one on the other side of the lake, where I purchased my X7 after the poor experience in Seattle. Just curious. Also new dealership in Lynnwood, since I live north of there, might try there, once I'm past the 3 year point...just looking for input to help my decision making.... Thanks in Advance!! |

Can someone clarify if there is a difference in parts for the X40 v M50 specific to transfer case and rear differential? If they are the same part, which I suspect they are, interesting how they have different service interval recommendations. I would do the TC and rear diff oil changes. Given the issues with TC mostly related to the 1L of oil that gets worn, it seems like a cheap insurance against other x drive issues.

jrmMD, I'm talking about the Eastside dealer. Thanks for your input on the Seattle dealer, I've been thinking about trying them out.
In my opinion the X7 is a great car and I have had no problems with it at all, but the dealership experience detracts from the car. Too bad. |

In that case, to OP: I’d negotiate the TC fluid exchange and skip the rest. |
