I think they already removed the rear jump seat from the new Model S. Possibly due to safety or partly because people are getting pulled over since it looks like the kids are riding in the trunk.

War zone.
The Tesla involved in the crash looks as if it was driving across the carriageway from the other side when the GTR hit it, the driver of Tesla simply not looking properly before pulling out across the road even if GT car was speeding.

Based on the result of the impact, I'm surmising that if the driver did look properly, the car wasn't in sight at over 100 MPH.

One other observation and one comment.

Why is there always a Mustang GT around when carnage happens? Asking for a friend.

And on a more serious note: This is why a new licensing system needs to be developed which is similar to that for piloting aircraft with these cars. Any Douchebag, as is made obvious in this case, can saunter up to the dealership with cash and purchase a 200 MPH car. Nothing can go wrong with this system. Oh wait...

Just as a pilot with 80 hrs in single engine aircraft can't operate a multi-engine jet, the Douchebag should be allowed to drive that monster. When will people learn?

Yes poor Mustang innocent bystander got whacked by collateral damage
Another factor is that there are traffic lights there so if there are traffic cameras there it may determine if anyone jumped the lights but obviously the speed of GTR car is the main factor .
It's not that dissimilar to Venus Williams' road junction accident apart from the fact everyone here walked away,
*The GTR driver is extremely lucky there were no kids in the Tesla's occasional trunk seats.

These seats always looked like an afterthought to me.

I think if you're shopping for a 3 row seat car, you can better choose one with a proper 3rd row instead of kiddy seats safety wise.
Didn't know this was a thing! How did that pass today's safety standards!?!?

They have this overseas with graduated licensing for motorcycles. I feel it should be that way across the board as you've mentioned.

And I also agree with you on it doesn't matter if the person was looking or not. If the idiot was doing triple digit speeds, there's no amount of looking to account for the closing rate of his car relative to yours. I've been surprised by idiots on sport bikes blowing by mean just as I was about to make a lane change. I looked and the idiot was any where close to where I had to take into account him passing me. This is coming from someone who has been riding sport bikes for years and have had many many years of track time. Also we were going in the same direction. Can't imagine what would have happened if I was going in the opposite direction or going across his direction of travel.

I agree 100%. I've been involved in multiple extrications. Never have I've seen the bucket heads...I mean squad guys at my station cut apart the cabin section to remove someone. It's usually easier, faster, and safer to cut apart the roof and pull the patient out that way.

As an aside, the title is a bit incorrect. The Model X wasn't cut in half. More like a quarter of it was cut off. I wonder if the mass of the batteries contributed to the failure points of the frame and the manner of separation.

It also doesn't look like survivable space on the passenger side of the Nissan, where the wheel is pushed back into where the passenger would be sitting.

Facing backwards is actually safer in a crash (data collected from train crashes.) As long as the seats are secured to the floor this should be safer than normal in the most common forward crash case.

That does make sense. It's still blowing my mind that you can buy a sedan with a third row seat.

That looks like a part of Hallandale Beach Blvd close to the beach. I was thinking the traffic in the winter months made that stretch of road really slow and congested.
