2021 Escalade

The new Escalade seems to be closer competition to the x7 than the navigator given how high end the interior quality is. 38 in oled display with night vision and augmented reality. 36 speaker AKG sound, with speakers even in the headrests. Super cruise. Good material throughout. Over 30 and over 50 extra square feet of cargo volume in each model relative to the x7. BUT I’m having a very hard time liking the front end. Outgoing model seemed more luxurious, maybe this needs to be in the correct color combo ie blacked out sport on black or that chrome grille on white. It will be a close decision when I’m due to upgrade my 7. Thoughts?

Nice upgrade, but it's lipstick on a Chevy Tahoe....

I'd choose it over an X7 if I had to have the extra cargo space.

Escalade and Navigator are body on frame SUV's. Saw a review today comparing all the big luxo SUVs and thats the main takeaway. I would never want a body on frame SUV, cause its impossible to completely remove the fact that its underpinning is a truck.

Plus all the flack BMW gets for grills yet all these other big SUVs coming out have just as big as a grill or larger.

Previous Escalade drove and felt like a truck; newer one should be smoother than that with IRS. Body on frame does sound appealing for tow and truck stuff haha. I gotta say I like the design of the Denali better, but the GMC badge isn’t necessarily something I like seeing

I agree, cargo volume and people moving ability is the biggest reason to pick these

For cargo-space, great.

But nobody should even think that this is going to handle like a X7...

Agree completely. The new Escalade, the navigator, all of those full size SUV's will never handle like the X7. Completely different and shouldn't be compared beyond the fact that all of them have 3 row seating. That's where the similarities end.

I wouldn't trust any first year model from GM. Remember the buffeting issues of the roof panels on the new Tahoes and Yukons a few years ago? My daughter has a '19 Expedition Max Limited and while it's extremely large, it drives pretty similar to my F-350.

I'm planning on going from a Yukon XL Denali to an X7. Do any of you guys find the cargo space lacking at all on the X7 when traveling? Family of 4 here.

I have a 2016 Yukon XL Denali and I feel like there could be buffeting but might be all in my head.

We just got back from a 4400 mile / 12 day trip. It was me, my wife, and our dog. We had one big-ass suitcase, one regular sized one, a couple of small ones and some assorted tote bags, a medium Yeti cooler, some jackets, plus the dog's collapsible crate (small dog - Jack Russell.) We were able to fold the rear seats down and therefore we had plenty of room. Without being able to fold the rear seats you would be SOL. There's not much room back there. You can fit a couple of 24 packs back there but not a whole lot else. That being said, it is a mighty fine cruising machine. You may find the cargo space diminutive compared to the XL version of the Denali.

Thanks for that information. I guess I would compare the X7 cargo behind the 2nd row slightly bigger to the Yukon's behind the 3rd. Having said that we tend to overpack because we can...

My wife drives a '17 Denali XL and I drive the X7.

A Yukon XL, Expedition Max, etc, will obviously dominate on space. X7, GLS, Tahoe... every vehicle this size has about the same space in the back. Worst is like 16 cubit feet behind third row, best is like 21 cubic feet, so to me it's sort of splitting hairs getting hung up on which has more.

I just think of vehicles like my X7 as having two possible configurations. One gives me a third row, and the other gives me room for stuff.

Great questions for you. Which is better in the snow? Is the X7 equal or adequate? I'm in CT so not crazy like where you are but my wife/I say you don't even feel this snow in the Yukon. Thoughts?

First weekend I had the X7 it randomly snowed in October, and I still had the standard performance summer tires on. 0/10 do not recommend!

Now that I have winter tires on I think it does just as well as the Yukon.

Otherwise the Yukon is probably a little better given the narrower tire.

I saw a white 2021 Escalade on the road from behind. I cannot get past those rear lights and that thing is huge. I would think buyers would have problems parking it in most home garages.
