It looks like X6 with M-Sport package to me.

Due to lower roof the car appears longer & wider than the X5 - although the difference in length is minimal, and there is no difference in width at all.

So, when compared to X5 directly the X6 appears larger due to different proportions.

It's definitely not the X7. The fascia is clearly of X5 / X6 M-Sport.

Audi rents out Q7 as a service loaner car.
You know what that means

Thank you BMW!!! I have been wondering and waiting for this announcement for almost
10 years... Makes more sense than a x4 and X6.....

Probably viewed by corporate as trading-up vs cannibalization

Think of it as a luxury living room on wheels. I often see families of 3-4 in large SUVS with bags and various items filled to the roof and having even external cargo carriers. It is mind boggling! Our family of 3 can fit everything in 330i and travel anywhere with room to spare. In addition, many people have meals in vehicles while watching movies, hence the Supersize Nation with waistlines that do not fit in vehicles made just a few years ago. Look what happened to the used to be brilliant 3 series size and dynamics.
At 6'2" I simply didn't fit in any other 3 series until now. And the 5 was out of the price range. Accommodating taller people = larger market.
I can see the argument for bigger vehicles for taller people. As for getting fat and needing a bigger vehicle to sit and gorge in, I'm not sure the automotive industry should collude with that. If that is the case it's a totally wrong to called it a Sports Activity Vehicle; more like Sedentary Armchair Vegetation.

I wonder how many dogs you can get into an X7?

BMW Suburban.

I don't have a need for a slob utility vehicle, thank god, but this will no doubt bolster the company and hopefully allow it to bring out more low volume, enthusiast oriented models like an M2, and hopefully an M2 sedan.

Exactly.

We don't have kids yet (it's part of the plan, yes we actually plan our family ) but I remember as a kid travelling down south every summer for vacation. When I was 8 yr old, my father bought a beautiful new 1987 Chevrolet Celebrity Eurosport (it was actually a decent car for it's day lol, it bounced around my family until it was totaled with 220,000 miles on it). Anyway, it was about the length of an F30 sedan, but it's boxy shape and fwd gave it a somewhat spacious interior and a huge trunk. Of course, it didn't have a cd player, let along a dvd player and all that crap, but with cruise control and AC, we were thrilled!. Believe it or not, the drive down to Hilton Head or wherever was always great. We talked, played games, and read books to pass the time. I really feel bad for this current generation that "needs" obnoxious things like dvd/tv players to 'keep the kids quite' on road trips. Really some of my greatest early memories.

My mom passed almost 5 yrs ago, I'm so glad we have those memories. I make it a point to do at least 1 road trip with my father every year either to Carlisle pa to the Corvette show, or Detroit for the auto show. I'm almost 35 now and my father 66... time is short... I could honestly care less about going to the Corvette show but we always have a great time talking during that road trip.

I remember the picture you posted. It's SUV version of the current F01/F02 7 series.
The picture posted on this thread is current X5.
So neither. It probably would look closer to the current x5.

Scott, I believe I read somewhere that the X7 will be sportier looking ala the X6 rather than just a "stretched" X5................

Any truth to this?

Really not sure what it was. Even accounting for the loose fit of the cover....the vehicle was much larger than the F15 X5. I'm sure I'll cross paths with whatever it was soon. Thanks. Palbay

Huh? I am 6'4 and fit fine in every 3 series, new and old models, and my 1m.

Make the thing look good please! No more carbon copies or evolutions. Instead of a bus, why not give us something dynamically alternative to a Range Rover?

They could release an X7 M too as a competitor to the GL 63

Eni, I think Palbay confirmed it was an SAV not a SAC.
As I know at the FIZ prototypes are using elongated X5 bodies so it could be one of those.
At the least I think it is too early for an actual prototype to turn up in Spartanburg since we are least three years away.

The X7 will not be a Suburban.
For example it is based on car from its architecture to drive train. The X7 will be able to distinguish itself from such badge engineered Land Whales as the Escalade x3 as an example it will be lighter , X7 will be more of a Land Shark.
When you have an extended wheelbase to work with , you can afford to be adventurous with some of the details such as the outline and there will be a more prominent arched roofline towards the rear and a less angular C pillar. BMW will push the higher end X7s towards the upper echelon of the Bentley and Range Rover so they are aiming at as a sportier competitor but with great emphasis on luxury being instantly apparent.

For all intents and purposes the GL is just an extended ML , but we know an S-Klasse SUV is apparently in the planning.

Yes it is a 7er with an outline of an X vehicle. In fact here is a little trivia.
If you want to know why the X1 is closer in appearance to the 7er is that it was originally part of the previous X7 proposals. The elongated wagon like shape rather than upright SAV was what the X7 intended to look like to accommodate 7seats and eventually they shrunk the detailing to the BMW X1 but had to sacrifice key areas to fit within the constraints of the X1.
