The salespeople are normally the last to know about new models. A salesperson will try to sell whatever is easiest and makes them the most profit which would be the latest product. It benefits the salesperson to sell you the latest product because they can charge a premium to be first and you will be a happy customer to have the latest. A happy customer gives good marks and returns to buy again. It’s a win-win as far as you and the salesperson are concerned.

In most companies the R&D (engineering/development) know first because they are working on the product. Marketing execs hear about it next to prepare the product message for the consumer. Most companies keep the R&D (and any information) away from Sales because a salesperson would "let the cat out of the bag". That would decrease sales of the old product that still needs to be sold. So salespeople are the last to know in the hierarchy of a company.

Ok, maybe the receptionist is "the last" person to know. My point is you shouldn’t blame your salesperson as he/she may not have known.

My salesperson admits to me that he knows less about new models than what's posted on the internet. He says they are always the last to hear the official word on anything. I like my salesperson, he’s honest with me. For what its worth I think a Z3 is a great car.
Thanks for your consideration.
The Z3 2.2 sold now ( good resale value after 3 yrs )
BMW never offered a 2.2 version Z4 here, so it wont be the same price for a Z4 2.5
E90 is a new model, so this time, it won't be wrong.
( and damn, I wanted a GTi and crazy with a E90 325i and now a 330i on order, would I give a fart to 335i for a 9 mths wait. The answer is no. I just want my new black horse on the road soon, wearing my 2-digit registration number I won from auction)

Just to catch up on this discussion, I want to make a few things clear:

1) The reason I used the words "official" in this thread are really only because SpeedFreak confirmed that he had seen the BMWNA roll-out calender. This calender is REAL: I have seen a few in the past. They come out maybe every 1 or 2 years (depending) and show dealers which Series/models they can hope to order in the next 12 months. But they don't show engine sizes/configurations or horsepower. Anything else that Speed is mentioning about the absence of turbos and the hp going to 310 is basically only my faith in his postings.

2) Yes, I do own an E90 and if anything I am not jealous, but PISSED that BMW would do this. Nevetheless, progress marches on....

3) I am continuing my own investigation, which will include visiting my local dealership this week to speak with some 'friends' and see if I can get a look at the recent calender.

Like a few have stated this is simply a forum where we can all share information. I DO NOT BullShit....if i find a memo or something @ my dealer that at the very least confirms the model designations, you can take it to the bank (or a finance company, should you be preparing for purchase of an '07 model ).

Here's what I know so far as definite:

Z4 3.0i/3.0si: SOP Feb'06

(I still don't quite understand why my projection shows Z4 R 2.5si for 2006... still working on that one.)

M roadster/coupe and Z4 coupe 3.0 June'06

328 (235hp) and 335 (310hp) June'06

X5 3.0 (255hp) and 4.8 (340hp) with optional 3rd row seating late 2006

... more to come...

Wow! June?!? I think I could wait that out...I assume it would still be a 2006 MY?

Is that just the for E92 or both the E90 and E92?

Keep the info coming speedfreak! (and others with inside contacts). What would we do without the info we find on this forum?! Hrm, any upcoming upgrade to the E90 line could be costly on my wallet

Do you know if June 06 is SOP or Europe start of sales or US start of sales?

I'd assume SOP June '06, which is around the time the E92 starts production.

I think the 328 (235hp) and 335 (310hp) June'06 prediction is for the e92. I was under the understanding the next 3 series to be released will be the e92.

I wonder when we will see the vehicle for sale in the US if SOP of the e92 is June 06. Always seems like Europe can purchase 4-6 months before US.

Speedfreak, Tine, RichReg & others.......

First off I want to thank you all for adding rich content to this forum.

Because of the information discussed on this thread, I am considering putting my 330i order on hold. I was planning on going down to the dealer yesterday but had second thoughts as I read this thread all last weekend. The possibility of a 300hp+ 330i ( non turbo ) sedan is exactly what I have been looking for.

Over the weekend I changed my mind to go for a 24 month lease instead of the 36month. This would put me in perfect position to pick up a 2008 335i sedan in Nov. 2007. However, from all the other recent posts, it seems there may be a possiblity the 335i sedan may be available in Oct. of 2006. If that is the case, it is only 10 months away.

Speedfreak, since you feel confident the 335i NA sedan will be out next year, when would there be any type of announcement from BMW to confirm the lineup and verify this timeline?

Thanks again!
BMWCCC

Speed, by the way, I am up north from you in Santa Cruz. You guys get that North West Swell couple days ago?

Dealers will probably make this info available if someone asks, but I wouldn't look for an official announcement from BMW until the press release for the Coupe.

Oh, and thanks for assisting in the devaluation of my 330...
...(just kidding)

Oh yeah! That was some serious sh...

E46 coupe/convertible production will run til Feb... like the sedan... BMW will re-tool and have the 328Ci/335Ci start production in June '06... sedan in Sept '06... the announcement should come out for the coupe in Dec/Jan... but could be delayed in order to minimize the damage to E46 sales. Production has already been cut way back. It is possible... that we may not see anything official until March... but I doubt it.

The coupe will start production in June'06 with the sedan following in Sept'06.

Speedfreak!, I was wondering if you could confirm that when you have previously stated the 325 -> 328 and the 330 -> 335 in June of '06, you specifically meant the Sedan 3-Series, and not the 2 door Coupe version of the 3 Series. Thanks.

No word yet on a Z4 M coupe? From your post, I infer the Z4 coupe will only be available as a 3.0 (255-265HP?) initially - is that correct?

Thanks!

Sorry... I'm trying to follow a few different threads.

Z4 3.0i/3.0si will start production in Feb'06
Z4 coupe and M roadster/coupe will start production in June'06. I'm working on getting some hp numbers for June's production... I believe the numbers will be better then what they are now. The E46 M3 will no longer be in production clearing the way for something more serious.

Thanks, so in other words, by Sept'06 or so, the 325 and 330 will no longer be in production (for either Sedan, Coupe, and I guess by extention, the Wagon) for the North American market? Is that about correct, as far as you understand it?

Correct. It will look exactly the same. But the badge and power will be different.

Not surprise , both current E90 325i(US 3litre verison) and 330i are losing to C280 and C350 in terms of horsepower.
My earlier competitor analysis

E92 coupe: SOP June'06... I've been told the convertible will be a hard top and I've been told a soft top. I believe the former. That is what I have been saying for many, many months. Originally the convertible was to follow the coupe in 6-12 months... but now they claim it will come out with the coupe. The only thing that I am certain about today is the June'06 production of the coupe and the Sept'06 production of the sedan. This is a work is progress, I will keep you posted as I learn more certain information.
