My fingers hurt just thinking of cleaning those wheels. 😅. Nice PPF. Did I understand it right, you DIY that?

This was what it looked like on pickup day. A rainy Veteran’s day and this photo opportunity came up.

Installed XPEL stealth PPF and HRE “winter wheels” w/all season tires. Added a front lip which transforms the aggressiveness of the front end. Still waiting for the rest of the aero parts to arrive. It’s a very unique color with the stealth PPF. The ceramic coating adds some depth and richness to the matte/stealth look. Our first vehicle with a matte finish but the wife agreed to it. It was a DIY install that took quite a bit of man hours to complete. Overall she’s been happy with the transformation so far.

The front lip is from Amazon but the same one can be found on AliExpress. Lip choices are pretty limited on the LCI X7 but this one turned out nice. Fit was very good and uses all factory mounting points plus double sided tape.
Amazon shows out of stock on lip.

Awesome! You do this for a living? By yourself, must have had a helping hand? And still had time to take photos.

Tires are Continental DWS 06 all season tires in OEM sizes. 275/40/22 and 315/35/22. Fitment wise there’s no issues. Wheels/tires are not super flush to the fenders but fine for now. In OEM 22” sizes all season tires are very limited for the X7. I would prefer Michelin tires since I think their side walls are better looking compared to Continental but it’s currently not an option. The Continental tires drive great though.
Absolutely gorgeous! Just curious if you could have any custom offset, would you want to push it out a bit more to be flush (for example extra 5 -10mm?) Thanks

This car is gorgeous. That stealth ppf gives it unique look and helps alot in cleaning. In my country x7 is very rare, so its nice to see these in forums.

Doing PPF couldn’t be further from my occupation. I just wanted to learn something new and save some money since it’s crazy expensive to wrap a large SUV. For the bumpers I had someone hold the pieces for me but install wise I did 100% of the install.

PPF film was $3K. Ceramic coat was $100 for the bottle. Install was free, lol.

Hence I went with replicas. They match well with the BMW 50th anniversary roundels.
They are $25 each. It's listed on their website.

Awesome! Looks excellent. How did you find finishing the edges? Hard to do?

This reminds me - I have the exact same wheels on order, and am looking for BMW replica center caps for them. Is there a specific size or style hubcap I need to search for to find something that fits? I know nothing about hubcaps, other than that they don’t all fit each other.

The hardest part about PPF install are deep recessed areas such as the bumpers. Wrapping the edges is easy as long as you prep the areas. Meaning you need to clean the surface so the adhesive on the PPF sticks. The most nerve wrecking part of PPF is trimming or cutting PPF that’s already laid down on your paint. It’s an art and based on trial and error and experience. Cut too deep and you score into the paint. Cut too shallow and you have to do the cut again and risk cutting it too deep on the second pass.

That’s why PPF shops charge a lot of money for installs. It’s to cover their overhead in case something goes wrong and they have to pay for repairs. I saw a professional in person install PPF on a Ferrari using a pre-cut front bumper kit and it took him 20 minutes. He probably charged $1K for that bumper install.

I’d be truly impressed if anyone was able to do a full X7 on their first try. I’ve done the front end of an X5 and I’ve done a full Model Y from a kit. Teslas are really round shaped and pretty easy using a kit. There’s plenty of DIY videos on YT if you search. It’s good to watch various ones to get different techniques as they will all come in handy.
