Stuff you wished you checked for when taking delivery of your car

If you could take delivery of your car all over again, what would you have wished you had checked for (since the dealer forgot)? Stuff that comes to mind from this forum:

-floor mat velcro screws (to keep them in place)
-making sure to request no-drilling for the front plate
-check under the hood to make sure they put enough oil in (and sealed it)

Biggest mistake I made was taking delivery at night. Small chip in windshield..didn't notice until the next morning. Live and learn.

The guy didn't really show me how to use CA (I think because he honestly didn't know either) and it took me a little bit to figure it out lol.

I see you got that from me, my salesguy emailed me and said he'd send the part that screws into the floor, we'll see.

I had a 2000 328Ci, so I knew about the tag thing, I will never ever forget that part.

I was naive, didnt check for anything. Still working well :knock on wood:. The only thing i need to do is get the seat belt fixed because it locks up when i try to put it on when first starting up the car, its a pain in the ass.

I went though my car with a fine tooth comb to include the engine compartment all the way back to the trunk where the battery is stored. I took my time and drank their coffee...

Absolutely zero things I need to check. Every bit of the E90 is there, and is working except I have n't got the AUX input working with my Mp3player yet?

Is the car better prepped when taking PCD? Thinking since the car is practically at the VPC and you have a dedicated delivery specialist. Should I be thinking of doing up a pre-delivery checklist as well?

My PCD was great and they did a FANTASTIC job prepping the car and explaining everything to me. It was my first BMW so they took 3 hours to explain every last detail. It took so long actually, that my girlfriend fell asleep in the backseat while the delivery specialist was explaining everything

Thanks Exactly what I wanted to hear! It'll be my first Bimmer too so I expect to take full advantage of the delivery specialist's time ... I pity my wife who'll have to endure it all

i was happy and smiling from the time i picked it up and drove it home. nothing wrong here, except for maybe them drilling the front bumper for the front plate. but since i'm in palo alto and san francisco a lot, i'll probably just run the front plate anyway (metermaids give out no front plate tickets).

My experience was not as good. The dealer was in a hurry, spent less the 2 minutes explaining the car (I kid you not). The only question I asked him was if he could help me pair my bluetooth phone. He was clueless and called another sales guy over. They got nowhere and in the end I had to take out the manual and do it myself.

The car was slightly dirty on the inside (some stains on the a-pillars) and the windows had not been cleaned on this inside.

However, this is fairly typical for this part of the world. The whole idea of service is fairly non-existent in general. There isn't enough competition and there's loads of cash around so the dealers take full advantage. The worst are the premium dealers who also have attitude. You have some hope of getting service from the cheaper brands where there is a little bit more competition.

I bought several cars (including a BMW) when I was living in the US and it is such a wonderful experience. I put it down to the fact that BMW NA hold the dealers accountible. BMW Ireland (and I imagine it is similar in many smaller countries) are in bed with the dealer network. They play golf together

Rant, rant...

My delivery in Munich was awesome. They took time to explain all of the functionality and told me who to call if something happened. They even got detailed driving directions to my hotel all the way in Salzburg. I was very pleased with ED and will do it again.

When my car was redelivered to the states, they did not give me the screws to mount the California license plate. I also had to bring the car back 2 months after re-delivery because they did not fill out the vin verification form required by the DMV and did not smog the car which they said they were required to. Also, I may have lost 2 months registration because my tags are representative of the month that I signed the contract, not the month that I took re-delivery in the US. I have heard that the latter is the correct way to register a car through ED although I am not positive.

All in all, I could have only checked on the screws, but my dealer prep was not first rate.

Since I have Stephanie, who was sent straight from Heaven to sell me cars, I didn't have to worry about anything at delivery. Everything was perfect.

Stephanie is my CA. She sold me both of my 3 Series cars. Doing business with her has been nothing short of perfect. I wish she could be cloned - so that she could also be the SA!!

My dealer went though everything with me BUT the tyres were pumped up too high, which seems to be a common lazy streak in all dealers.

10 out of 10 for my delivery. It was all there. In fact my sales guy told me that I will receive the exhaust chrome tips once they received stock which wasn't long after I took delivery.

Very happy with my delivery at 0830 on the Saturday. Best time to take delivery. You have ALL weekend to enjoy the car and that was exactly what I did!
