So I wait till a tuner in belgium can tune F series petrol cars which might be in the near future. When that happens I will log the tune with JB4 on map4 as proof

If you look up Simon Motorsport you will see that a certain Dutch person is the co owner of Simon Motorsport... And if you put two and two together it makes sense why a Dutch M5 at Leib has SMS logos all over
OK makes more sense then thanks!

That owner on M5board just said it takes a week to prepare the ecu. What the hell are they doing to that thing?

It used to take longer! I think that they have to do some quite intensive electronic work on each DME to come through the firewall and individual encryption. It's this process that is quite time consuming AFAIK. When the encryption is cracked they have gained access and can change the maps in the DME

Euro tuning for the Fxx gen seem to have some interesting developments lately with more tuners seemingly now able to Flash tune. BR-Performance have apparently flashed DME's since september and are currently developing tunes for the petrol engines as well...

isn't the F series ECU similar to the N55 ECU? I thought that has been cracked years ago.

It all depends on which car the N55 is in... The N55 was in the Exx gen as well as in the Fxx gen cars.

The Fxx gen has a higher grade encryption than the Exx gen... Regardless of which engine the car has, N55, N53, N63, S55, S63 etc.

Thank you for the clarification.

I guess no tuner, including Dinan, in the US wants to spend the time to crack it, and instead all relying on these so called piggy-backs.

So it seems.

Over here in Europe, the piggybacks also has a great advantage for the established tuners that only want to sell legal tunes with emissions compliance.

With a flash tune, it's a more involving job (AFAIK) to create maps that actually meet the emissions criteria for the test cycles. With a piggyback they can set the piggyback to only come into action outside of the test cycle criterias. The EU test cycles does not involve heavy acceleration etc, so it won't have any detrimental effects to set the piggyback this way. By doing this the tuner can rely on the OEM's stock maps and be 100% sure that the car will meet emissions requirements with their tune.

That's why many of the Euro tuners claim the exact same as stock CO2 emission even with their tune. That's because the tune/piggyback doesn't do any modifications of signals during the emission tests... But only makes more power when you push the engine more

These motors are in the 1-series, 2-series, 3-series, GT 3, 4 series, 4 GC, 5 series, GT 5, 6 series, GC 6, 7-series, X1, X3, X4 , X5 and X6 models! Without freakin' pulling out your ECU and soldering a chip onto it? Like an OBD flash?

That's what they claim, yes...

Don't think anyone of the current tuners actually solders a chip onto the DME... BTW, both ZIP and BR Performance only offers diesel tuning as of now. Working on the other versions. Only LEIB does the ///M's AFAIK

You guys will like it This is email reply from Leib Engineering on my enquiry:

Hi,

Yes it is DP compatible. No CEL will appear.

The price is 1980€ incl. TAX

VMAX is delimited.

520 real HP an 650 real Nm – more is for sure possible.

You have to ship us your DME!

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / kind regards

Not sure if google translate is accurate, but here's something from famed German tuner a-workx (winner of SportAuto Tuner GP contests) claiming an ECU remap without piggyback for the M4
