Mixed tyre brands after puncture?

Had ATS mobile (via Arval fleet services) come out today to replace a near side front tyre on my 330e after a screw-derived puncture. Despite indicating it had Pirelli Zero tyres when placing the call, they've fitted a Goodyear Eagle F1. So I now have different brands across my front axle. One tyre that has done 9,500 miles and one brand new with a total different pattern and compound. My wife supervised the guy doing it so I only noticed this evening when moving the car.

On contacting the ATS line this evening they indicated it "wasn't a problem" (this after escalating to a supervisor). I was always told mixing tyres across axles was dangerous and have found various links on both tyre fitter and tyre manufacturer websites indicating the same.

https://www.protyre.co.uk/news/may-2018/don't-mix-tyres-across-the-same-axle-–-it's-dangerous,-and-can-be-illegal

https://www.continental-tyres.co.uk/...g/mixing-tyres

What's the view?

Don't mix tires. It's bad enough to mix the same brand tire with different mileage on them, let alone different brands all together.

I had the same issue last month when I collected my car, slightly worse as it was two different brands across each axle! Have a read through, towards the end

Even the handbook says quite clearly the same tyres should be used all round.

Yeah, I wouldn't be pleased to be honest... usual advice is to replace in pairs, and never to mix brands on the same axle.
Mixing between front and rear axle isn't usually advised but often isn't feasible to switch all together and are changed based on wear.

The silver lining is you have a GY Eagle on one wheel now, which I rate better than my old Bridgestone S001 and current Turanza!

Thanks, that's really useful. Still waiting on Arval to get back to me... I'll quote the official BMW guidelines to them and see if that makes any difference!?

If this was done via an insurance claim I would look and see if there is anything in the policy on this.

No, it's company car so just part of the lease service. Hopefully will get it sorted out next week with Arval and if not I'll have to get our fleet manager involved and maybe the health and safety team for good measure ;-)

I would just put a nail into the goodyear and get it replaced again - this time insist on the OEM fitment i.e. P Zero.

We have KwikFit and they always try it on when they do mobile fit. If I drive into local branch I tell them I want OEM or nothing.

The Kwik fit branch then ring around local branches for me. Bizarrely the local Kwik Fit near the BMW dealership has stock of BMW fitments.

Lease company haven't challenged me for sometime now. If they do I ask to speak to authorising tech to ask them if they would drive at 100+mph with mixed brands. They normally tell me you shouldn't be doing that speed. Then I tell them I travel for business into Germany - and remind them my family will come looking for him/her for failing to do their job properly...They normally back down and understand I want OEM or nothing.

Lex are regulated by Ombudsman so you can log a complaint - they will pay you to close complaint. It works for me as they learn to change their customer care...or I make some money out of it

Good luck with that. Your company car is a tool of work and not your personal car. As long as the spec and size of the tyre is correct, then I wouldn’t think they’d change it. It wouldn’t fail an MOT for having different brand tyres on the axle.
The policy with lease cars is get them back into service as soon as possible. You’ll find the Goodyear is OEM fitment, just that yours came with Pirelli’s from the factory.
