Been an hour or so since I checked, and already zoomed through dot 7 "assembly in progress". Now at dot 8, "Quality check". I gotta get some sleep, but looks like she's getting finished today!

I am still on my first dot of order received for the past 12 days. Dealer says it won't enter production till end February but that I'll still get the car end of March. The wait....

OP, I'm so happy about your X7 and definitely rooting for you. This thread definitely helped remind me to not take things for granted. I rolled my ankles running this morning and had a bit of a hard time driving my E36 M3 to work. All my BMW M's are manuals, but I was thinking what would happen and what car I'd pick if I lost ability to push in a clutch pedal. Then sure enough, I stumble upon this thread.
If it's not too much to ask, please take as many pictures of your road trip as possible! I'm sure it's a dream for many of us to take such a trip, and the G07 is the perfect companion for it. All the best!

I'm ok driving a stick, (and would definitely prefer it if not for the disease) but it's tough sometimes when it gets to stop-and-go traffic, constantly pushing in the clutch, engage 1st gear, drive a bit, pop it out of gear, come to a stop, etc. What's rather silly is, the thing I need more than anything else is a higher seat height off the ground, to easily enter and get out of the car. With my 330i, I sit down into the car, and then the toughest part is climbing up out of it. Rather silly to get a big old SUV just for the seat height, but... that's reality. I promised myself when I was young, someday I'd own a new 7-series sedan. If it weren't for the disease, I'd be headed that direction, but hey, I'm getting the 7er of BMW SUV's! And I completely agree. No better BMW in the lineup for a long distance road trip than the X7. Perfect for it! Last edited by Wild Blue; 02-04-2021 at 10:28 PM.. |

I am looking forward to the pictures and tales from the road. There are few better rigs to take a long trip in than the X7. My solo 1,600+ trip was so relaxing and refreshing. So happy for you!

Well since you seem to have an extensive list, why not add a few more things.... What about Space Saver Spare? Or did you order one with your build...? Mini air compressor? Did you get the trailer hitch, if so what about a spare hitch ball? Being from Alaska, you never know when you might need to tow something... . And since you are getting the M50, why not add the M-Sport mirror caps to complete the look?

Yeah, I ordered the rig fully loaded, including the spare. Yes, a mini air compressor might be a good idea. I might pick one up at an auto shop before starting the road trip.
I did doublecheck that the spare does come with a jack, and I'm also getting one of those poly discs that fully adapts a jack to the jackpads proprietary to BMW. I'm also getting an Echo wireless trailer brake controller, and will bring it with me on the road trip. As for keeping an extra tow ball in the trunk... perhaps. I've looked at the M side mirror caps, and they're an interesting look, but I think just not quite what I'm going for on the build. I'm trying to avoid the "modify it, or buy an accessory, just because it's available", and really go for what I truly want on the car. Do appreciate the thoughts. |

I also have the Echo Wireless brake controller, it works great. Don’t forget to get a good cell phone mount to use when you use the controller. I bought a cheap cup phone holder that works well (I only have my phone mounted when I am towing). A good companion app/device is the Curt Echo BetterWeight mobile towing scale. I used it to help setup my rig properly. Considering where you live, you might find that tool useful so I recommend you check it out. You should not need the BMW jack pad adapter for the factory jack as it is made by BMW for BMW after all. But having the jack pad adapter is good to have in your garage at home. As far as the M-Sport mirror caps, cosmetic mods are always subjective. I personally think it compliments the M-Sport look and should have come from the factory that way - all of the other M SAVs have them. But if you do decide to do it, I recommend you stick with the OEM parts as it was surprisingly inexpensive by BMW standards and very DIY friendly. Oh, and one more small mod to add to your list for consideration. The sunglasses holder that replaces the “oh shit” handle on the driver side. One of those small mods that makes a surprisingly big difference ...

I've been considering the sunglass holder mod. But with my muscle disease, I'm thinking there's a chance I may need that handle in the future. Not as the Oh S@#$, but just to get in and get settled. But I figure I'll drive it for a while and see. Can always do the mod anytime. Just wouldn't want to do it, then figure out I need the handle back. (and side note, I couldn't find the holder in black for the G07. Only other models)
