How much clearance to I need to run coilovers?

Hey all, I'm getting my wheels remade and would really like to go 10'' in front. The reason for this is that the stretch on a 275 tire would be much better on a 10'' rather than a 9.5'' like I had. I am not planning to lower the car for now (maybe springs) but would like to know that I have a wheel that I can use WITHOUT a spacer in the future when I do plan to get coilovers.

The wheel spec would be 18x10 ET25, which I know fits with no rubbing, but would provide exactly 10mm of clearance from the shock tower. I know it depends on the drop (I don't care for the "slammed" look) but would the tire end up rubbing on the spring/spring perch?

Any opinions would be welcome

P.S. If you don't want to do the math, a 10x18 ET25 setup would provide the same amount of back-end clearance as:
- 9.5x18 ET31
- 9.0x18 ET37

Best
G

Anyone have a 9.5'' setup and running coils? something with an offset of 30 or so - does it fit?

Any help is appreciated!

I have 275/35x18 on oem 18's (9.5 et23) and they clear my KW ClubSport coil over suspension on the front.

Thanks, that seems to be a fail-safe setup for clearance. Do you know how much space you have till the springs/perch? Do you think I can add another 8mm of rim (same tire size)?

Thanks again

There isn't room for another 8mm. If I remember correctly, there's a 5mm gap between the tire and the perch on the ClubSports. Any wider and it's no-go. I don't know how other coil-overs might work, but the setup I have is about the limit for ClubSports. That said, I've concluded that the square setup is unnecessary and I'm running stock front widths on stock front rims on the track and loving it.

Ah damn. Ok so I guess a 18x10ET25 will not provide enough clearance and I would need to do something like ET20 at the minimum...which would stick out of the wheel well about 1cm unless I have more negative camber which I do not want yet!

So I think I may be stuck with a 9.5 rim.

It really depends on the coilover. I have 9.5 +25 with 275 rubber and it worked fine with stock suspension. When I had the motons, the tires rubbed the supplied springs as well as the stiffer springs I had spec'd. If I stuck with the kit, I would have purchased shorter springs to move the perch over the plane of the tire.
Your best bet is to buy coilover, measure, then buy wheels.

I already have the wheels and they are being re-made to different offsets, as well as the fact that I do not have the skill required to warrant coilovers yet (i prefer to mod in order! haha)

So I think I may just end up with 9.5 ET 21 or 20 and see how that goes. Do you think an extra 4 or so mm would have prevented your rubbing issues?

Thanks for your response.
