Assisted Driving differences?
I’m excited to be back in a BMW! After a couple of Range Rovers, a brief dalliance with a Cayenne Turbo, and then a Model X P100D.... I picked up a 2019 X7 50i last week!
Easily beats the Tesla for build quality and interior luxury, also blows away the Range Rover (2018 Supercharged LWB) for interior quality and design. Again, vastly superior to the RR for technology, and surprisingly on par on many levels (and ahead in others) with the Tesla. What I am struggling with is the “self driving” options. On the Tesla it was easy - either “on” or “off”. The X7 seems to have three different flavors - follow cruise (‘ACC’), something with a green steering wheel that works most of the time, and a special case (something ‘Plus’) that is available on the freeway below 40mph (this one makes the steering LEDs come on). What’s the difference? I get ACC doesn’t attempt to keep me in a lane, but the other two?... |

Thanks for sharing! This is really helpful
So, it’s really: - Regular ol’ cruise - Paced follow cruise without steering - Paced follow cruise with steering (auto lane keeping) but you keep your hands on the wheel - Paced follow cruise with steering (auto lane keeping) but, below 40mph and on freeways, you can take your hands off the wheel as long as the computer thinks you’re paying attention My steering wheel LEDs only come on when it’s in “auto steering, and you can take your hands off the wheel” mode. This isn’t what the video implies - seems the LEDs should be on whenever I should reasonably expect the car to be steering for me. Did I get that wrong? |
