Someone already raised the issue with BMW Corporate and basically got no where. BMW admits the light pattern but refuses to admit it's a problem.

I have my X7 now and my headlights look the same, obviously. I wonder how different this would look if BMW would just unlock our headlights. I suspect what we're seeing is how the light pattern looks when neutered for the US Market. Look how the brights look up against a wall, all matrixy.

I wish someone from EU would upload the pics of what their headlights pattern looks like. At least you would be able to compare what the differences are. I know the patterns are different due to regulations, but in theory if headlights hardware is the same you could potentially see the same "defects", or would you?

Upto 37mph same pattern.
Above 37mph totally different illumination as the adaptive matrix lights are activated.
And that's for pretty much every late model car, whether Skoda or Beamer.

So I didn't raise the issue with BMW Service but my 2023 X7 picked up a giant nail and I took it in for the tire to be replaced, and they said there was a recall for the headlights and a software update. I got the car back this afternoon and was pleasantly surprised to see that iDrive 8 is now running firmware version 07/2022.59 (if I remember correctly) AND whatever they did ENABLED the anti-dazzle feature of the headlights and it was selectively turning on/off different beams of lights while driving on the highway in the middle of San Antonio with plenty of traffic around me.

The low beam pattern still funny but clearly BMW is doing some updates to the headlights via new software, albeit slowly.

BMW announced a new OTA update on Oct 11th but my car hadn't received it yet and got it while being serviced.

Thanks. Good to hear. I sent a email to corporate. They called me today and kind of admitted it was an issue but still said working as designed.

Yeah the variable light distribution pattern isn't active yet and they don't swivel nearly as much as previous headlights had when turning (the movement now is barely noticeable), but it looks like they are working on it. I imagine that if they fully enabled the variable light distribution code of the adaptive headlights it would solve the problem since the pattern would change depending on light conditions. Let's see if that's something that eventually gets turned on by BMW as part of a long term solution.

Can you confirm your software level. I'm at .39

I went by the local dealership today. They confirmed that there is a recall on the headlight and there is an updated software version. Even though the car says it has the latest update.

They said it will take about three hours. I went ahead and made an appointment.

In terms of the recall on the headlights -- I don't think it has to do with the pattern. I think it has to do with something related to turn signals and headlights coordinating electronically. You can find the recall if you look around online.

I saw that thread but I thought it was related to the DRLs. He was specific saying headlights. Anyway, I remain hopeful. At a minimum there has been some other glitches with idrive 8 that I hope are addressed with the update.

I don't think they can address the lighting pattern just with coding, from all appearances it appears to be a hardware issue. It can probably be mitigated somewhat with dynamic adjustments, but not completely eliminated. Even the non-LCI version has some aberrations in the light pattern.

I can check later today, it's raining right now so heading out to my car wouldn't be the most fun but I'm almost certain it's .59

Either way if you spoke to the dealer the recall and SW update will bring it to the latest version and active the anti-dazzle.

Having recently taken delivery of a euro-spec LCI car, I can confirm that the adaptive headlights are very impressive!

This is one of the things I was concerned about coming from my previous range rover as I've always found BMW headlights to be quite
dim in comparison, but the new adaptive lights in the LCI X7 are very impressive both in light brightness and depth.

Plus I actually find the adaptive corrections to be much better and quicker than the range rover, certainly I've not been flashed by oncoming traffic like I was quite often in the range rover.

Hopefully you guys in the USA get an update that allows you to have full access to their capability.

Mine is running 07/2022.57, definitely no anti-dazzle on my end. Can anyone else confirm if this is actually an update we can (finally) get in the States?
