Talking Supercars & Superyachts at the French Riviera

So one day at the French Riviera (St Tropez Bay area) in mid summer, and this is what you get: waterslides from huge yachts, 991 GT2 RS, Aventador, ...

Yeah, summer on the Cote d'Azur with your 250 mph car that if yer lucky you can get it out of first gear and drive 25 mph on the local streets. As for the yachts ... St. Top. and several other ports like Cannes are where people go who need to be seen. There is port just to the east where people go who don't need to be seen. That is more fun IMHO. Of course I am also biased caused I lived near by.

Earlier this summer in Copenhagen we saw Charles Simonyi's Yacht SKAT. That was impressive.

You mean Antibes? Or (shudder) Nice?

I don't recall any port on that coast that qualifies as one to use if you don't want to 'be seen' -- at least on the France side. Menton is about a chill as it gets (thanks to it being sandwiched between Monaco and the Italian border) west of Imperia, which is only chill because it's primarily an Italian naval port.

Yes Antibes, well really Port Vauban, it is quite the contrast to the others at times.

Indeed, in french we say 'place m'as tu vu' for these kind of places - meaning the "Have You Seen Me Place" (loosely translated).

We were strolling through the port in Antibes two summers ago and ran into the yacht Dilbar - largest in the world- owned by a Russian oligarch. It was next to other huge yachts and it dwarfed them.
