All of BMWs are in that range. Most of the RVs for lease are in mid to high 50s and that includes support from BMW so the market is probably closer to 50% you mention. I am not sure if it's any different with other German brands. As others here have said, it's better to lease or keep it for a long time. If you can, wait for two years and buy used and keep it for a long time, that's the best trade.

Welp. The time finally came for me to start shopping dealers to place an order for an X7 M50i with Performance Center Delivery. The plan would be to pick it up in Spartanburg and drive it back home — we love national parks, and haven't had a chance to visit ANY of them in the southeastern US, so it would be a pretty awesome trip. But I digress...

I hit my first (local) dealer today, and I suppose it's too early to be completely demoralized, but it didn't go as well as I'd hoped. I wonder if my expectations are unrealistic, but it just seems like folks are getting 10% (or more) off MSRP — but this dealership came back at just 5% off. And that's with the lease credit and loyalty credit included... so really the discount was more like 3% ($113,995 MSRP discounted to $110,571). Is that as crap as I think it is?

I guess we'll see how it goes from here... I'm waiting to hear back from three other local dealers plus two from out of state. And there are two more local and who-knows-how-many more out of state dealers I could still reach out to. I think I was naive to imagine this would be quick and painless. Should I just tell them straight out of the gate, "Hey, give me 10% off MSRP, don't jack up the MF or tack on any bogus fees, and we've got a deal" and see if anyone bites? I'm stuck between worrying I'm gonna scare them off by demanding too aggressive a deal... and worrying I'm shooting myself in the foot in case I could have gotten a *better* deal if I'd kept my mouth shut.

I really really hate this process.

I hear ya, Denver. I'm considering a PCD as well--think it'll be a great experience. The good news is, you don't have to go local to place a PCD order. I think you'll get some good recommendations here, and if needed, you can drop me a line of a suggested dealer in the Wash DC area.

Wild Blue and Denver, I have done the PCD three times and enjoyed it every time. You can spend as little or as much time there as you want. First time I did the full day and second and third times I only did the track driving and the car presentation and skipped the museum and the plant tour. If you have the time and don't need to head home right away, I heard there are some cool twisting mountain roads near the facility that offer really good views and ability to test your new car. One of the BMW instructors that presented my first car was also a former policeman in the area and told me to be careful with not speeding on those roads as apparently they are a ticket magnet.

Thanks, but I think I'm good now. Just got off the phone with a CA from a different local dealer about 5 minutes ago. I'd sent her an email last night being totally upfront about what it would take to get me to sign, not expecting much. But she came back this morning with numbers that are close enough that I'm willing to run with it, just to avoid the hassle and stress of shopping dealers. The MF is a bit inflated, but she gave me 10% off MSRP before incentives, so I'm comfortable with it. I told her I wanted to know the build date for the allocation, so I'm just waiting to hear back on that, but I think I'm probably going to move forward.

I could keep shopping around and probably find a better deal, but I have a pretty long history of being willing to pay more for convenience and to avoid having to deal with people. Hell, look at my username.

Plus, there's something vaguely reassuring about buying from a local dealership that's within easy driving distance. Psychological trickery, I'm sure, but... there it is.

Thanks, aas5. I've heard nothing but rave reviews about the PCD experience, so I'm really looking forward to it. My better half and I have a great love of the national parks, too, and we're using this as an excuse to take a meandering roadtrip back home, hitting up some of the parks in the southeastern US we've never seen. Should be a blast.

I just asked my salesman what the build date for their allocation and he came back with 8 weeks. Is that just me or does that suck?

Allocations all depend on the size of the dealership you are working with. Higher volume dealers are given more allocations.

Might as well use the time to shop around with other dealers.

I agree. High volume dealers have more allocations to push the build. I confirmed my order and finished the financial paperwork on Nov 16th, order went in as "customer sold, Priority 1" same day. The car is at the dealership today. That's less than 4 weeks.

OK, I need a little help here then...what should I exactly be asking for when asking the dealer about allocations? I really don't understand how that works.

You need to ask if they have a production spot available and what the build date is.

Took delivery today of X7 M50i with no surprises. The transaction went smooth. I was offered Tire and wheel for $1425 which I felt was a pretty good price compared to $3200 quoted from my previous dealer for M5C.

10% off MSRP
$2250 incentives
0.00128 MF
57% residual
$295 Tags and doc fee

It was an awesome drive back home. Thanks everyone for their valuable input and support!

Congrats!

That's a pretty good deal and with the wheels and tires the M50i has, this insurance is a must IMO (of course, if the price is right like in your case).

Nice, I'm getting something similar in Houston. I could only get the $1000 lease credit and $500 credit for corporate sales. Shouldn't residual be 58% for 10k?

Vink, I assume your 10% off is in addition to the $2,250 of incentives?

I took 12k miles! Ask for Conquest rebate ($750) if you don't qualify for loyalty. That way you'll save another $250 but won't qualify for corporate/fleet credit. Please also check with BMWCCA rebate of $1000. You may not qualify for it if you go through corporate or fleet rebate.

Yes, total discount is 10% + $2250.
MSRP: $109095
Negotiated price: $95935

I wanted to break it down not to confuse others. There has been many miscommunications earlier regarding total discounts which everyone's not qualified for!
