Funny but my dealer had to make the same repair twice. They never said what they did wrong with the sharkfin, but they acknowledged they clearly didn't complete the job appropriately.

still boggles my mind that this is an issue they havent solved. how hard is it to seal it properly?
also noticed that my drive assist plus is disabled, reg drive assist is fine. speed limit recog is also all over the place, my guess is before it was using the maps and supplementing with the kafas cameras, but now it can only do the cameras.
gps thinks im in the middle of the hudson river.
and theres no way to get rid of the stupid error message.
service appointment booked for next week, hopefully a quick fix.

Well, going in to get this fixed in a week. BMW NA did me a good one and helped get this covered under the CPO warranty that expired two weeks ago.

update on the issue for mine- car is at the dealer, they opened a case with bmw and the engineers had them reprogram the whole car. surprisingly, it looks like it fixed my malfunction issue. they report no signs of a water leak. it does looks like the reprogram has fixed it at least for now, i can see live status from the car in the app and all of the things that were not updating have updated (location, fuel status, window status, etc).
its going to sit there for a few days- i have a right front passenger shock that seems to be leaking, its deflated after parking for a few days

Just got the same EMERGENCY CALL SYSTEM MALFUNCTION message yesterday, X7 is a 2019 with 43K miles on it.

We own the car, bought it when our lease expired (reluctantly) after post-covid price increases. I bought a third-party extended warranty, but have a $1K deductible and would rather not deal with it.

Question: Can we live with this error message and loss of emergency calling and continue to drive the car for another 1-2 years before we get rid of it or is it something that can get worse and worse and damage other electronics and cost more over time?

You can replace the battery, shouldnt be too much. Its also possible to code out the error until you decide to fix it or handover the vehicle.
