As the title suggests.

Is it possible to code a boot release function to a speed dial? I don't appear to have a dedicated boot release button other than what is on the key fob.

Nope, it's not possible - you can only add items you can select in iDrive to the shortcuts so the only way to open the boot is with the key fob or the physical button on the boot itself.
