Any opinion on the 2021 mild hybrid system?

the 2021 model removed the ASS button because of the 48v mild hybrid system.

I'm considering X545e and X740i.
Any 2021 model owner could share some thoughts on driving in the city with many stops. would that be super annoying?
Thanks!

I have a 21 X740i. The start stop is seem less. compared to other BMWs i've owned. It does shut the engine off when approaching a stop but starts very quietly and quickly. I do wish I could turn it off when creeping forward to a metering light or a drive through. It would also be nice if the battery was large enough to allow the car to drive on electric power for a short distance which this car is not.

Happy to answer other specific questions.

I don't know if this still works in the 2021 X7 40i. in other BMW's, if you put it into sport mode, or turn on the auto hold, it disables the ASS.

I hate ASS in traditional 12v systems, but with modern 48V mild hybrid based ASS, the start up is so fast and quiet that I didn't mind it at all (many times didn't even notice it).

What is strange is the 2021 X7 40i has lower EPA ratings than the 2020 without mild hybid.

I tried putting my 2021 X740i into sport mode during stop and go traffic and i can verify that sport mode locks out the start/stop.

I can code it off.
I've coded it off to my '21 G05 X5 40i and a few of my customers with 2021 models too.

I have a 2019 X5 40i and my wife has a 2021 X7 40i. I can tell you that the 48v system is far superior to the system in my X5. I don't miss the ability to shut it off when I drive my wife's car, but as others have said, enabling sport mode disables the auto start/stop.

The other annoying thing with the auto start stop is that it doesn't allow the AC to be run while "auto-stopped". Is that still the case with the mild hybrids? The GLS mild hybrid's 48V system runs all the cabin electronics, so AC still works even when the engine is "auto-stopped."

I answered my own question, the manual says that AC is indeed turned off during stop. However one of the conditions that will prevent the "auto stop" function is if the car has not reached its desired temperature, so presumably if its warm the AC and the engine will stay on. See attached shot of the page from the manual, there are other conditions where auto start stop will turn off, even in mild hybrid systems
