Had crossed my mind but then you're looking at a sports saloon compared to a full sports car with weight and aerodynamics coming into play and various degrees of technology hidden from view, hence the price I reckon.

the new Porsche Panamera Turbo has a V8 with 500HP. So no clue what you are talking about (sure the 911 turbo has a boxer 6, but there is a reason that Porsche didn't put that in the Panamera)

What reason is that then?

My guess would be the production costs of the Boxster engine are higher than the V8. Not sure whose V8 they use either be it Audi/Lambo or their own.

Weight is also not as much of an issue in a heavier lump like the Cayenne and Panamera, neither of which are balls out sports cars.

The new 911 turbo engine is a powerful masterpiece, however i think its more to do with the Panameras competition. Masserati has a V8, S63 has a V8 etc Porsche cant sell it with a 6 cyl in that competition.
