i wouldnt look at those number just like that, merc is always having more HP than bmw, from 20d/200d to 40i/450 and even when comparing M vs AMG, always, but yet it doesnt always reflect in real condition, due to weight and pther driving dynamic system in which bmw leeds.. claiming that bmw takes more money fore less power is ridiculous, first of all they are not selling just power esepcially in this segment, but luxury comfort tech and other stuff, but look at accelleration number, bmw x7 40i with less power is 0.7sec quicker than gls with more power, more than half a second.. not small at all...

I've had two of the Mercs, and I've never felt that the 3rd row was usable for adults. It's not horrible once you get back there (if you're very small), but the procedure required to get the 2nd row back in place makes it a less-than-desirable situation for me.

Sorry BMW, but this is not one of your better (exterior) designs. Unfortunately, a very bland design.

Better comparison would be GLS vs Dodge Durango. Looking forward to seeing an X7 in person.

I cant stand that kidney grill, sad i wont be getting another bmw if this is the style they're going for now. For some reason the front end reminds me of a world war 1 tank, those hidious things designed in the days with a pencil only

I'm sorry but that GLS has the wrong lines. I don't know how at Mercedes decided to have that hump by the rear quarter panel, that doesn't connect to anything. It's hideous. The G07 looks so much better in its side profile. Cannon wait to see the X167 (?) and compare the two.

I'm not solely focused on power. It's the total package of the GLS 450 for less money than an X7 that make for an interesting playing field. I like BMW. I have an M4 comp and have had four M3s and another M4. The GLS will be stiff competition and the new one will be more so. I think BMW built the X7 with GLS in mind, among others.

that i share with you, those high luxury class are places where merc leads, unfortunately i have to admit that, i dont like merc for driving, its too soft for me, i have had few mercedes (some e class, clk 2x, and sl 2x) but have driven a lot of mercedes's.. bmw feels more rough stable and sharp, thats my taste for driving, but if i would be looking luxury comfort and elwgance.. mercedes would be my choise, but i am just a kid who likes racing, driving with agression (on track, not on roads) so bmw is my choise, beauty and ride..

Really? You're the one that brought up the GLS450 was "more powerful for less money" than the X7 40i. Now that it's pointed out the X7 is significantly quicker despite the power "disadvantage", it's not about power? Then why did you bring it up in the first place? Whatever.

Anyway, as far the slight price difference goes, you're comparing an ancient car to a new one. The new one SHOULD be more expensive.
The difference is marginal, however, and in fact only applies to the X7 40i vs the GLS450, as the X7 50i is miraculously actually cheaper than the GLS550. Once the new GLS replaces the ancient current model and catches up the X7 in tech and freshness, I can promise you the GLS will cost just as much or more as the X7.

I’ve been in em all and the third row is fantastic for decent sized adults. 6’1-6’2” 170-195 is no problem back there in my experiences. Hoping some permutation of second and first row adjustments in x7 yields similar accommodations, but fact of the matter is bmw went their own direction with this vehicle. It’s got 3.5” less room in the second row than the new GLE. Smaller third row than current gen gls. Nowhere near the navigator.

But in the end those dimensions don’t mean squat. It’s fantastic inside and out and will have a low, long and mean look on the road with the right rim and trim.

Comparing it to the outgoing gls base trim is just unfair, both inside and out.

There's no way in hell the X7, X5 & GLS are wider than a Navigator. The dimensions need to be double checked - some of the widths are measured with mirrors and others without.

The R class had it. Get beyond the minivan look and I loved my 2008 R500. You couldn't slide between the two seats but my kids keep growing on me and would appreciated that over the 3rd row in my current X5.

Get some adults in the second row with an 11 year old in the 3rd row and nobody could be comfortable in the whole car. I suppose I'll have to try out the X7, but right now I'm leaning towards squeezing the 3 kids in a single row and jumping into an X3M instead. 3rd row in the X7 looks like it's a big improvement but the second row still looks sacrificed.

Wow. Galaxies apart. That GLS is a POS now, and if I'm not mistaken, also more expensive.

Easy man. Just sharing thoughts. You obviously aren't reading the whole post. I'm just thinking the GLS, both new and current, will represent stiff competition given the price of the X7. As for quickness and power, who knows how they are geared and how they'll stack up. 0-60 isn't everything. Think about hauling, passing, etc. MB has strong engines, and BMW put an engine with the same output as a 340 in a big car. I was just a little surprised to see this and believe the new GLS 450 will increase output.

Again, I am BMW guy that also owns a GL and is curious as to how the cards will fall. I was hoping for more power in the base model and that the X7 would be a slam dunk for me.

Not a contest at all, the GLS takes the cake for the exterior. The interior of the GLS does look quite dated as others have mentioned but it's still not horrible looking. The refresh will be the one to compare to the X7.

I do like the white wood trim on the X7 actually. It's probably my favorite thing about it. The rest you can burn

This is the new interior of 2020 GLE. I'm sure that 2020/21 GLS will get same or better version of it.
The interior depicted here is in its last year.

You gotta love the new fake exhaust on the new GLE.The exhaust pipe is actually below the bumper and the chrome piece above is jiust for show.Talk about cheating out, especially on an expensive SUV.

God that 2020 GLE interior is creamy. Myself, I can't wait for a GLE 63 Coupe (with a proper growly sport exhaust out back

You are right it's such a shame, hopefully they won't do that on their AMG models. Audi did same to SQ5.
