BMWCCA Driving School at NHMS
I just registerred for the June 30th event anyone else planning to attend? I'm looking for a good instructor. I've done a couple of PCA events in the past but this will be my first BMWCCA event and the first time tracking my 335. I'm a bit nervous but excited just the same

I really want to do this, but I've got a pre-oil cooler E92 335i. Not sure if I want to risk dropping the money on the event, hotel, and driving there only to risk going into limp mode fifteen minutes in.

I don't even have an oil cooler so imagine how i feel I'm going anyway and see what I can do. If I can't run that many laps so be it and the next purchase will be a oil cooler.
You should come anyway. We can sit in the pits cooling down together. |

These are awesome events, I have done them multiple times in years past. Very professional and always smooth. Plus you'll have a ton of fun!

Yeah, I might wind up doing it anyway, gonna depend on schedule and disposable cash at the time. I'll probably have to pick up some used tires or a tire/wheel combo as well if I go - don't want to shred my street tires. If I do have oil cooler problems, I'll have a bit more of a case fighting with BMW to do the free retrofit that they've done for some of the other E92 sport package/wheel package/no oil cooler people. Pretty ridiculous if a BMW car can't handle a BMW driving event.

I've always wanted to do one of these events....my only stay back is that my car is my daily driver. I can't afford to have anything happen to it....plus the car way too much for me on a track. I'm man enough to admit it

Is this only for BMW's? A buddy of mine would want to do this, but he doesn't have a bimmer.
edit: nevermind, saw you have to be a member. Last edited by MetsFan; 06-03-2011 at 09:51 AM.. |

You don't have to have a BMW to be a member. I've been to one driving event and probably 1/3 to 1/2 of the cars were not BMWs. If your buddy's into cars Roundel magazine is probably worth the membership dues alone, and the driving events are really reasonably priced.

I am really interested. I have been looking to do something like this in my M3. So all I have to do is pay $48 for 1 year membership with BMWCCA and then $100 novice fee?

You got it. The $48/yr is completely worth it, I'd even go so far as to call it a bargain. Roundel is an excellent magazine and, if you renew the membership, you'll get a rebate back ($500 for 3 Series, up to $1500 for a 7er) on your next car purchase. The events are lots of fun and well organized/instructed. You'll learn a lot.

Well, looks like I won't be making it to this event. The money I was going to spend on joining the BMW CCA, attending the event, and replacing the tires after they get beat on for two days had to be spent replacing my MacBook Pro which took a fatal fall onto the driveway. Hopefully next year I'll still be in the area and will be able to get enough time off to do the event.
