Lowering the car...(eibach, H&R, etc)

Ok, so i'm considering lowering the car, which isn't a small amount of money so I got some questions for y'all.

was gonna do a poll at first, but ihave no idea how to do it.

Do you guys lower the car for looks? or performance?
I mean, it's supposed to be a lot better for cornering and such,
but how fast do you even turn right / left?
I'm usually very cautious when I make a right turn, since someone might be crossing the street, and maybe even a car could ignore the red light and could come from the left.

So is it for mostly looks? The ride should be stiffer.
and does it really look that much better after lowering the car about 1.2inches?

How many of you have lowered your car?

Honestly, I want to lower my car just for looks~
Of course use some lower springs you may feel the different~and increase some handleing~
But I think it's just a little bit~
I have a mix feeling about lower springs and 19"rims~

I had the sports suspension factory fitted. Lowers the car by 15mm
Looks great close (but not too close) to the wheel arch.

I'm generally against modding BMWs... You paied that much money for the supposed superior german engineering, and now you're going to rip everything out and put other stuff in... that does not sound right to me... and I'm also not in favor of the look when the ride hight is so low its wheels are actually in the wheel arch.

The only time I would lower a car is when the center of the wheels are actually lower then the center of the wheel arch. That makes the car look awkward IMO. The E36 I still have is like that and that always naged me.

Eibach is German. Personally, I'm all for upgrading individual components, as long as they enhance the car's performance.

I also dislike that tucked in the fender look though.

I've got H&R sport springs on my E90 with 19's. Here's a sorta side pic...I'll post more later. BTW, the ride still feels like stock, but when taking corners there is less roll. I love how these springs feel...and they make the car look good too.

I think you can also option a MB AMG supercharged engine as well, we never get the cool stuff in USA

that looks great actually...did u oringinally have the sports 325i or just the regular suspension?

Lowering gives the best of both worlds. It makes your car look better/more agressive stance and handles alot better. Every car I have..lowering is a must no doubt about it.

Proper suspension tuning will enhance vehicle's handling, but if its not done
right, result will be... negative.

I doubt slapping on lowering springs(with proper alignment done afterwards) will cause huge negative effect on our BMWs, nor it'll dramatically increase e90's ability of handling.

I also plan on H&R(race/sport) or Eibach(sportline/prokit).
But I am looking for some pics of them on 162s. lol.

1.2 in the rear and 1.3 up front. Had non-sport suspension before the install.

HOW LONG TILL THE SHOCKS GO BAD ON JUST SPRINGS? i wanna lower it with springs but dont want my shocks to go bad too soon, any othe rnegatives besides stock shocks going bad?

Unless you're doing the install yourself, save yourself the pain and get a matched spring/shock combo. Because the install costs for doing just springs is the same as doing springs and shocks.

When you start getting the damping rate and the spring rate off you get some funny dynamics going, especially on the freeway. You're also making the stock shock operate out of it's designed movement range; you're shortening the travel of the shock. Not going to wear it out appreciably faster, it's just not going to work as well as it did with the stock spring.

You bought a BMW, don't cheap out by slapping a $200 set of springs on it can calling it good. Buy an engineered spring/shock combo or a set of coilovers. Coilovers are really nice because you can get the car corner balanced.

I normally go for function over form, but this is a win win situation. The car looks great lowered, and it handles better! H&R.
