I've noticed a distinct whine coming from the engine when the AC is running and it stops as soon as I turn off the AC. Had my SA check it out yesterday, when I went it for an oil change. He called in the foreman as well, who said he could hear it and although unusual, was probably the AC compressor and that I shouldn't worry about it! He said there is a service bulletin that called for an AC line replacement but that was only for a clicking sound, so probably doesn't apply here. I can't hear the whine inside the car and no obvious issues with the AC, so probably not a big deal but was curious to see if others are hearing this as well and if its normal? There wasn't another X7 around at the service center for comparison unfortunately. Thanks!

i had a similar issue on my X3 M40i, B58 engine like the 40i. no codes, but they deemed the compressor faulty based on the noise. replacement solved the issue. unfortunately i threw out the service invoice, but i believe my dealer opened a case with the mothership and they recommended replacing the compressor. no real push back from the dealer, the tech heard the noise and started the escalation process to get it replaced under warranty.

it was a buzzing whine. could not hear it in the car, but could hear it outside of the car. constant unless you turned off the a/c

Thank you for the info! That sounds exactly like what I'm observing. I did ask my dealer yesterday about running this by BMW but he said that they normally wouldn't escalate, unless there is an engine code. Let me ask again though and mention your experience if thats ok. Thanks again!

also, found my invoice, i had it in email.
the TC number is the case number that they opened with bmw to diag and get it approved.

try this, i zipped up the audio only (the other file was a video, but nothing important was in it, just me moving around the engine bay)

Sorry for the late response, had a few things going on but thank you so much for the audio file, that sounds exactly like the whine I'm hearing. Will try my luck with my service center again!
