I'm happy to report that the 2nd row seating is plentiful with the front seats situated in a reasonable position (I'm 5'10"). I can confirm the 2nd row seats is a bench and not captain chairs. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the 3rd row. Access is easy as the 2nd row has a push button automatic fold. However, don't expect to be comfortable back there. The current gen Q7 gives you a good idea how much leg room to expect. It's definitely longer than the +2 configuration in the X5. With the 3rd row up, expect a much smaller trunk space. And unlike a van which has a deep trunk (vertically), the X7 isn't deep as you should expect the typical BMW SUV trunk setup with the removable floor. Overall, don't expect much in terms of a space upgrade. BMW literally built a MB GLS and Q7 competitor. From the D pillar, it almost looks like a GLS. The one thing I was impressed with is the interior build quality. It's another step from from the current gen X5.

The q7 is awful, as far as that goes, but the GLS comfortably accommodates two 6' 1' passengers in the back. The headroom, legroom, and shoulder room are 38.9" 35" and 50.5", respectively, in that vehicle. You need a Navigator to touch that (37.3" 36.1" and 64.2"), which is a full foot wider back there, has an inch more legroom, but 1.6" less headroom. And drives like a boat. So if the X7 doesn't compare favorably to the GLS, what exactly is the point of building an x7!!?? FYI, the second row will have 2 seater as an option Last edited by ppagiga; 10-08-2018 at 04:44 AM.. |

Are they offering a 3rd row delete? I would consider that if it gives more trunk space. My X5 is my 5 days a week dog hauler (he's in the trunk) so am looking for more space.

I am sure you can just fold them flush with the cargo area.

The second row captain chairs should be a option from what I am told by our NA rep. I remember him telling me that earlier in the year, but then again that was a handful of months back so this could have been just on the prototype and decided to ditch it but Im thinking they will have it as a option. The x7 also is no wider then the x5 as it would cost a shit load to redo the factory line to create steps to make a wider unit

fold them down like the +2 seats in the X5. They should fold down flush.

Maybe sacrilege in these parts, but anyone who wants a somewhat useable third row should look at the Land Rover Discovery. I was stunned at how practical the 3rd row is. If it's important to you that is...

correct, 3rd row folds flat into the trunk similar to the +2 3rd row in the X5.

The LR D3/D4's (LR3/LR4 here in the US) have an excellent 3rd row that an adult can fit in. But then again, you have to deal with everything else that comes w/ owning a Rover. I had an LR3 for only 2 years and still get a headache thinking about it.
