X7 Center Jack Points?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Where are the points to place your jack on your X7? I found one near the tire where you can use a bottle jack if I want to use a regular floor jack, I don't see any good location to place the jack.

I use these Jack pads in all 4 corners when swapping my wheels around with a 4 ton floor Jack. I do one corner at a time. Takes me maybe 20 minutes….

Very nice! Where do you place these pads under the vehicle? I was able to use a bottle jack that fit inside the jack point, however, I can't use that point with a floor jack. I wasn't able to find many points because most of the undercarriage is covered. If you can point out the locations where I can place my floor jack and stand I would really appreciate it.

The Jack points are in the manual. They’re are those plastic square grid protrusions at each corner. Their is a slot cut out in the middle of the plastic square for the jack pad to link into.

Here is a thread on wheel swapping I did awhile back.

I bought a bunch of these ages ago when I don't think anyone else made them.

Thanks a lot for the information, this was very helpful. I ordered them through Amazon, my X7 didn't come with anything, not even a spare tire. I eventually found a center point in the center where the engine is where I could use the floor jack. Does the X7 come without a jack and spare because of the run-flat tires? Do you have to turn off the air suspension every time you take off a wheel or have the SAV on a jack? Is that just for safety reasons or for something specific?

Spare tire was a $150 option. Your must have not had it. The stock tires are runflats regardless of whether you have the spare. So the spare isn't really of any use unless you're planning on going way out into the middle of nowhere.

Also if the TPMS detects a flat tire, the air suspension will adjust on all four corners to take weight off the flat one and put more weight onto the other tires. That makes life a bit easier for the flat RFT. Pretty cool.

Now that's something cool, I like it when you use the sports mode and the X7 lowers itself. The reason why I needed to jack the truck was that I scratched the wheel and wanted to get it repaired. When I get the wheel back, should I do anything specific to make sure everything goes ok? I know I have to torque them to 101lbs ft/140Nm and tighten them using the diagram. I turned off the air suspension so once the wheel is on I'll turn it back on.

I would not jack up the X7 from under the engine as I don't remember seeing a center jack point under there the last time I looked (and I don't remember seeing a center jack point described in the manual). Not all vehicles have a center jack point under the front subframe (e.g. under the engine). Just use one of the 4 factory jack points along the sides. While the BMW jack pad adapters are nice, they are not necessary if your floor jack has a nice, flat surface that will fit properly on the factory jack pad. I use the jack pad adapters sometimes, but don't if I get a bit lazy….

Also, you don't need to disable the air suspension to change a tire. After you finish changing your tire, the air suspension should reset itself within a few minutes of driving. This was my experience when I recently removed a wheel/tire to plug a slow leak from a screw I picked up.

You can see where I put my jack in the picture below (bottom right corner of pic). The other pic is what the factory space saver spare looks like if you wanted to retrofit a kit…

It was an area in the center of the steel frame right between the front wheels that weren't covered by any plastic.

Thanks for the diagram, that's where I placed the jack, (point 1), it was metal.

You can lift the entire rear axle by lifting on the rear diff…and as noted…make sure there is no pressure on the diffs COVER. The rear diff is supported very well within the rear subframe assembly(aka rear axle carrier)…so there shouldn’t be any issues using the rear diff. You can also do a google search for pics of BMW owners using a jack/lift and where they placed it on the rear diff. This topic has been discussed for decades.

Here’s an illustration of the rear axle carrier to which the rear diff is attached. You can see how the weight is distributed and not just focused on the rear diff and axle rods alone:

Don’t forget to chock the wheel(s) on the opposite end being lifted…especially when lifting the entire rear axle. The front wheels have no parking brake or tranny park pawl to prevent the vehicle from moving forward when the rear axle is lifted.

Incredibly helpful. Thank you!
