Anyone tint the Skylounge glass roof

Thinking about whether or not to add this since my car is already in the shop.

I thought it was already tinted, somewhat? I would think tint would impact the Skylounge effect, no?

I've heard it significantly decreases how bright the lights are in the glass, so I did not tint the roof. I've been driving mine for a couple months and haven't been bothered by the sun.

3m does make an exterior window tint that is said to be more scratch resistant.
Not sure how that would hold up.
Might be an option?

Here is mine with spectra photosync.

I did 30% on the fronts, 55% rears, 70% on the windshield, and 30% on the skylounge roof.

With your 30% on the skylounge roof, are you still able to see the LED's at night? Would you be able to provide a photo?

Thanks!

So I got my car tinted yesteday. Had the tinter try 3 different shades on the roof. 5/15/35%. Ended up going with 35%. It still lets through the effect of the sky lounge roof leds. I've attached a before and after photo of the sky lounge.
In person, the effect is more pronounced than the after picture shows.
Also this is with the LED brightness set at the middle level.

Overall I'm satisfied with the tint. I wish I could've gone with a darker tint (15%) to block out more sun/heat but didn't want to completely lose the led effects so settled on 35%.

Could you state this in like a percentage? e.g. 35% tint in your impression made you lose X% of the Skylounge's LED brightness....fill in X ....Thanks!

I would estimate about a 50 to 60% reduction in the brightness of the led lights. But you can still see the lights in the whole roof which may not be very apparent in my photo.

Uh, why would one tint the sunroof? That's a bit odd.

Close the shade.....

I tint my sunroofs all the time...I want the light but not the burn. So many great tints around you don't even have to go too dark to reduce the burn.

Thanks! I'm probably going a bit lighter then with mine.... maybe 50% tint would be just right for me.

Can you dim/brighten the LED lights in the sunroof separately from the rest of the interior lights? Don't have my vehicle yet so not sure. Thanks

Unfortunately you can't, there's only one setting and it applies to all interior ambient lights including the roof.

The shade is a thin piece of cloth that doesn't block much heat. On a hot sunny day, put your hand on the shade, it's hot. Tint will block out a good portion of the heat making the interior more comfortable.

I like to keep the shade open to let in some light, but without tint it gets too bright and too hot. With tint, the amount of light coming in is just right and the heat reduction is significant.

The tint shop I've been going to for the past 10 years says most of their customers get sunroof tinted. Some choose a 70 or 80% tinit which is basically clear and so it's whole purpose is to block out heat.

In the past I tint my roof with 5%, but this time I didn't not want to lose the effect of the sky lounge led's so went with a lighter tint.

If you are ok with the amount of light coming in and just want to reduce heat, you can go with a 70 or 80% tint which looks like there's no tint and won't really affect the sky lounge lights, but do block a good portion of the heat coming in.

Highly recommended if you live in a sunny and hot area. Photosync is what I used and the amount of heat blocked is insane though it did not impact the Skylounge at all.

Yep makes sense....especially with so much glass on the roof with the pano and rear sunroof.

I made an appointment to get photosync installed all around and asked for LED sunroof as well. Very reputable install shop that specializes in tints only.

They warned me that it wasn't recommended and if I insist they suggest the lightest tint due to instances of glass cracking.

Probably too early for the x7 but I assume x5 owners who have similar LED sunroof should know if this is a problem? Apparently the tint causes the glass to get too hot?
