I've got the Fineline Black Wood trim in my M50i and it looks great (especially with the matte chrome accents and glass controls). When cleaning, I spray some glass cleaner on a micro fiber towel and wipe; no smudges and good as new.

I've owned both for long stretches and have found that scratches on the matte tend to blend in better than on the highly polished surfaces

We have matte finish wood trim in both our X5 and X7. Definitely provides a richness to the interior. We like it over the glossy options but either way all the choices BMW provides are great ones and purely subjective.

The close gray in our X7 does not show fingerprints. I hate gloss black and gloss dark wood for that reason. Agree darker wood trim looks better and more updated in matte. Not sure how it wears or if it will age well. Very happy with the gloss gray, but it doesn't go with everything and I think it was $1,000

A glossy finish is going to be harder and provide better protection, but surface scratches are going to be noticeable as they will interrupt that shine. On a good note, those scratches will typically easily "buff out", but something to keep up constantly with if you like your interior looking pristine.
The matte finish is going to hide scratches from normal wear and tear better, so perhaps more ideal with having less maintenance for daily use, but the softer finish will provide less protection from a deeper scratch. While the deep scratch may be more likely with the softer finish, it is also easier to repair with decent results. I've seen people do wonders with a fine sandpaper and some good quality colored pencils.

We went with Matte finish wood in both our X5 & X7. Wife and I both prefer it over the glossy finished trim. Here is my X5, don't have one of my wife's but it's the same.

I love the matte, had in my Maserati for 3 years and was flow less, have now in X7 and love it, much more forgiving than gloss

Dealers keep tell us stories of the matte being more susceptible to scratches, not sure that argument holds much weight as I know several owners that have matte and have had zero issues. I’m more inclined to believe this argument is more so to get existing stock off the lots which are, for the most part, gloss finish. |

I feel like the glossy goes better w the glass controls but matte is really nice too. Matte does look a bit misplaced against the glass controls though! |

I'm trying to decide between Anthracite brown poplar matte and ash grain black wood to pair with Tartufo. My dealer doesn't have this on the lot for me to take a peek and confirm that I like the combo. Does anyone have either of these combos and willing to share pics?

I was totally in the same position when I was specing the build.
I only went with black fineline cause I found out that my detailer will coat it with a ceramic coating part of the package. Did that and it looks amazing. I use a ceramic recharge solution with a mfiber towel and it shines back every wipe to crispy day one condition.

Always had glossy trim. Its never bothered me but decided to try something different so went with matte.
Sight unseen (except pics), I went with Ash Grain Black Wood on Tartufo. Hope it looks as good in person as it does in pics! |

You will love it. It's amazing. It looks so classy and elegant. Even folks at the dealership were telling me how amazing it looks.

It's a self healing coat by opticoat. I honestly haven't seen it in action "self healing" but I don't see any swirl marks or scratch and I have two toddlers. All I do is wipe it off and it's back to day one status. It seems like some sort of clear coat. I remember using something similar way back in the days from bmw interior care kit but it wasn't self healing it was merely scratch removal and maintenance
