Saw the real production X7 (WOW!!!)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Edit: Added X7 teaser just posted this morning at https://g07.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1544453

Impressions:

This past Friday my wife and I were invited to a special preview of the new BMW X7. All I can say is AWESOME!!! What an amazing vehicle. If you are looking for a truely luxurious ride and a vehicle that will make heads spin this is the car for you.

There was high security at the event and you had to be scanned in order to proceed into the tent that house this gorgeous vehicle. We were lucky to talk to the actual designer and engineer of the car who was present to answer any questions.

Aside from the vehicle's beefy and stately exterior appearance everything about the car bellows excellence and "move over any wantabes". This SUV is simply the king of the crop. The interior is refined and gorgeous beyond compare. The cockpit is a dream come true for those that want complete refinement, luxury and technology.

We sat in every seat in the vehicle and had plenty of room no matter where we were int he car. The command position of the driver's seat was strong and definitely not for the weak at hand. My overall take on this car is that if you're going to drive this car you better be ready to announce your presence with authority. Because this car will take a back seat to no one.

By the way the front BMW kidney grill is HUGEEEEEEEEEE.

Here's other impressions shared by other BIMMERPOST members later in this thread:

The design is actually very sporty in person. This X7 was an M Sport in Carbon Black with what looked like Caramel coloured comfort seats. The rest of the interior including the dash was black. It also had the leather dash.I assumed they were the comfort seats because they had the diamond pattern like my wife’s 540i.

The whole front seating area makes you fell like you are in a sports car,not an SUV.BMW did a great job with the interior. The new digital gauges will take a little getting used to.I prefer the analog digital ones in my wife’s 549ii

The front M Soort spoiler looks great and I love the look of the blue Laser lights.

The BMW guy said it has an air suspension system,so you can raise and lower the ride height. The car on display had very little wheel gap which makes for a very sporty looking vehicle. The M wheels also look fantastic.I forgot to look to see what size they were. But they were huge,so at least 20 inch.

The size looks about exactly the same as my 2010 Mercedes GL.The third row seating folds into the floor by pushing a button in the cargo area.Seating space isn’t great.Looks the same as my GL.I will always have the days stired into the floor anyway.

It looks so much better than the concept vehicle. Now i just have to decide when to order one.

If anyone in Toronto is interested in going it is army 151 Bloor Street West in Yorkville. It is open from 10:99 -4:00 and they will be there unti Tues next week. You can sign up to get in when you get there.

Here is the info.

Got to see the X7 50i Msport tonight, it is not much larger than the new X5. Third row up it is cramped and almost the same amount of space in the rear as a X5 with the third row. The captains chairs are nice, the materials upscale and fit and finish much improved, the movement of the middle row and third row are all power, they stow automatically. There was a gentleman there that we became friends and he mentioned he had a GLS63 and sadly he says his vehicle had more room compared to the X7. I was at the event in detorit and saw the x7 in person. Agree with the post above. Was not impressed with the space. I was hoping that the car would have a true third row and it does not. The third raw seating is only made for two people and it does not seem much bigger than the x5 at least in the third row seating.
Apart from space however, the car seemed very nice. Second raw seats were great in quality and comfort same with the first row . . thoguh i'm sure the one we saw last night probably had all the options checked.

Fortunately, I'm not disappointed because I'm more interested in having two individual seats in the middle than a third row and knew that, given its dimensions, the X7 would in no way approach the room of an Escalade. But, did they indicate it'll be $30k more than an X5? Even with the additional standard equipment on a 40i, I was thinking more in the neighborhood of $20k.

I overheard base price of 50i X7 was around $100k. My new X5 50i heavily optioned is $95k so around $25k over base. Do the math.

gl/gls is the standard in this class for a well resolved third row. that vehicle's is very accommodating and doesnt need to be an XXXXL vehicle like the escalade/yukon/suburban to accomplish it.

so i'm personally not expecting a revolutionary amount of room, but i expect it to be on par with the outgoing gls (model year 2013-19). from first hand accounts, it seems to be closer to the q7's third row accommodations, which would be atrocious for a vehicle of the x7's size.

+1 on all of this. I don't care about 3rd row. I want a little bigger SUV than X5, and specifically 2ND ROW SEAT LEGROOM.

Ouch if we're really talking an X7 starting price over $100k

I forgot to ask them the price at the Detroit event last night, but if it truly starts at 100k it might be a tough sell. Everything on the inside and out was great quality and very nice but the Mercedes GL starts at 70k and has more room and that's not a crappy car either.

There is no pricing yet.I talked to a few BMW guys at the event today and they had no idea what the price is going to be.IMO there is no way pricing will start at 100K US for the 40i.Pricing for the 50i will probably start very close to 100K,just like the Mercedes GLS 550 which has a price starting at 96K.

The 40i will be cheaper probably $15k like the base difference between a 740i and 750i but understand it also means less standard equipment. Also understand the weight of the vehicle makes the 40i much worse than in the 740i. I could not recommend the 6 cylinder for a vehicle this large and heavy.

I'm hoping that BMW took the approach of trying to make an SUV version of the current 7-series, with the luxurious interior, extra spacious legroom, and high-end features. Not necessarily just a bigger version of their current SUV/SAV lineup.

I'm hoping and expecting that level of refinement and 7-series luxury, which to me would mean maybe a $80k starting cost. If it really were to be $100k to start, you're talking extra-niche and likely out of my reach.

There's no way the X7 is going to start at US$100k! The base model six cylinder xdrive40i is going to start somewhere between $80k-$85k.
The V8-engine xDrive50i model is the one going to start somewhere between $96k-$100k. Anyway, we'll get to know for sure in a few more days
