Not sure the name of the person...but we got her from Matthews NC I believe. It was actually my wife's Brother that set everything up.

He breeds Norwegian Elkhounds and we have two of those. We did end up paying quite a bit. I just thought it was funny that we had dogs and a cat that were both Norwegian.

He gets a crazy amount of money for his dogs....all of it by word of mouth. Has people from all over the east coast waiting on some of his litters, so he knows a lot of different people especially in NC.

Crazy things is that we have a Miniature Schnauzer as well that replaced a dog that my wife had that lived to be almost 19 years old. She had that dog longer than I had been around. I let her grieve for a few months, and when I thought she was ready...I got her the Mini. Her brother arranged that as well.

But I paid considerably more for the Schnauzer ($2K) than I did for my daughter's cat. The Elkhounds were free as he let my wife pick 1 from one litter, and then another from another litter a year later so he would have a playmate.

Too funny - I imagine our two cats are related.

That's pretty cool. I didn't know there were that few around. Sadly, she will be moving out when my daughter gets married in May.

We have cared for her while our daughter finished college, and I have grown quite attached. My in-laws live in NC, and we live near Landrum just a few minutes from NC. So it wasn't that far.

We got our Schanauzer from NC too. Can't remember the breeders, but her brother knew them. I supposedly got a deal on him, and I thought....yeah right. Then I seen some breeders getting $3K+.

Shocked me. We live in horse country, so I'm used to hearing about those prices....but we wouldn't do anything different now looking back on it.

Nice! We spend a lot of time in Asheville and surrounding areas. My folks had a place north of Asheville, closest town was Burnsville. That was sold when my dad passed away but we own some property south of Asheville where we will build and retire in a few years.

Hold onto it. Property prices are going crazy up there. Unfortunately it's raising property taxes for people who have lived there over generations.

My in-laws own 51 acres between Marion and Boone. Shortly before getting into Boone, you head West for awhile. My father-in-law farmed as a hobby. He's 68 now, but inherited the land from his father. It's beautiful up there.

In the last 15 year's, people have been building these huge vacation homes around the area, and their property taxes have doubled each year for like the last 3-4 years.

We sold my wife's house in the Tryon area after being married for about 5 years. We kept it as a second house, but then got an offer too good to pass on.

There is a lot of money in that community, and even more now since the new equestrian center was built.

I just hope the area we are in doesn't get too developed!

So this thread has been very informative. Based on:
-very bushy tail
-very fluffy pants
-very squared muzzle
-very chirppy
-very dog like
I've determined Polly has alot of Maine Coon in her.

LOL, Ron's feline doppelganger! You should see her mane after I comb her.
Forgive the horrendous pic quality. I'm overdue for a new phone. We got her from the Humane Society. A missing eye made her an unlikely candidate for adoption. I named her Polyphemus and she took to "Polly" in a flash. I had cats all my life but she’s the first to come to her name. She also brings her favorite toy (a shoestring) to me and asks to play. Another first. Also, I taught her to sit up and beg on a whim. I've seen videos of cats performing amazing tricks never had one who made me think "I bet she could do that."
BTW, the shoestring thing is all her doing not mine. Polly has a boatload of high-dollar cat toys!

Yep - My cats' two favorite toys are a shoestring and also a tin foil ball. My old maine coon would sit on command, come when I called her, and walk on a leash. I've got some photos of that somewhere. She was a super cool cat. Died of cancer about 3 years ago.
Sorry to hear that. Hurts like hell to lose them. Each time that's happened I've said "that’s it, never again." Then inevitably another one finds its way into our family.

New mission for Polly - walk on a leash!

This is Oscar

I'm not a cat fan. I was extremely allergic my entire life. Emergency room allergic. When I first started dating my Sweetie, I was not a happy camper when I found out about Oscar. At first Oscar would be put in the basement or locked in one of the bedrooms when I visited. I would be extremely careful and put my clothes directly in the washing machine when I got home for fear of having a cat hair on my clothes and cross contaminating my house. My Sweetie is a neat freak so he always had air filters going in every room. No fabric anywhere, all hardwood and tile floors. Much to my surprise, I never had a reaction.

Fast forward, we bought a house together. I can't tell you how much I stressed over living in the house with a cat. There is a gate on the bedroom door and I do take precautions. So far so good, but I won't touch him and I'm still extremely careful. I'm not sure if there is such a thing as only being allergic to certain cats, or if it's because of all the air filters, no rugs and keeping the tile and wood floors clean.

Anyway, He is a freakin riot. I feel bad - he doesn't understand why I can't touch him. And that is his couch. He is allowed on a small section of my couch that is covered with a towel.

If you haven't had a reaction from living in the same place, I'm pretty sure you're good. Try petting him and you'll know for sure.

Easier said than done. I got a cat hair in my eye once. The white of my eye literally swelled up and covered the colored part of my eye. Talk about scary. That was one of many ER visits.

He is OCD. Cracks me up. He literally barks at the bedroom door at 3:00 am because he wants to eat. And don't think you can just walk down the steps. He goes down in front of you, stops on each step until you pet him with your foot - back and forth, two swipes. He then goes to the next step and so on.
