Throat Punch Thursday

We have a thing at work. We like to throat punch customers and employees that annoy us. In the same vein as whack off Wednesday. Get involved spread the word and keep dumb people in line.

Sounds like someone had a bad day at work today... But given my day, I'm onboard with this!

I dread Face Palm Friday. Tomorrow afternoon about 10 minutes before I leave someone will come up with an issue that's been going on since Monday and they just decided to bring it to our attention at 4:20 on a Friday afternoon.

I have a couple meetings today, where I know there will be face palms.

Every day here is face palm Friday yet I wish it could be throat punch Thursday. Oddly enough the HR department would frown on this.

I held a boom/scissor lift certification training yesterday, to one guy. He had NEVER operated a boom or scissor lift before in his life and stated that he was afraid of heights. The fucker fell asleep on me during the training 3 times. He somehow passed the written portion of the exam. Today is the hands on portion. I get to take him 80' up in the air and scare the shit out of him on a boom this morning. This will be interesting to say the least.

I did that to a guy once who wasn't paying attention in a basket that we had him in on a JLG style lift. I just bounced the basket up and down a few times, and he about lost his lunch.

He was properly secured and tied off....but he doesn't trust me now!

Happens here all the time as well. Worst case is that I do actually get to leave, get halfway home in my commute...and then get the "dreaded" phone call. Pisses me off to no end.

I'm at work typically no later than 5:30 each morning...usually earlier. I use that time before anyone shows up to get caught up with e-mails, receivers, etc.

These guys pile in around 8:00, take 1+ hour lunches (I never leave the plant and work at my desk during lunch) then start having their emergencies about the time I am planning to leave.

As I hate having a weekend where all I am thinking about is what I have to resolve on Monday.....I usually go back or stay to finish it up.

I did this today during a meeting with a woman who was being extremely arrogant and annoying.

My joy of his training this morning was explaining how touchy the controls are and how to make very small adjustments when extended out rather than being heavy handed. He learned quickly to back off the controls slowly rather than just letting them go. He about dropped to his knees in the basket extended out at about 60' when he just let go of the controls. That instant stop and the sway that follows is not for the faint of heart for beginners who are afraid of heights. I'll give him credit though, he did really well.

I trained a guy once who was a self proclaimed "pro." He failed his certification due to managing to somehow get 2 wheels off the ground at the same time. Not only did he not get certified, he got fired.

I haven't done that yet, that's a good idea.

You sound like me. Don't have to be at work until 7:30 but I'm usually here sometime between 6:00-6:30 so I can be left alone before the people that just stand around and talk show up. I typically leave to pick up lunch and eat behind my desk "working" (cough....bimmerpost). The biggest difference is that when 4:30 hits my ass is out of the office with the ground on fire behind me.

What do you do?

Me too. In by 6:00 or 6:30. I get so much done before everyone else shows up. There's really no need for me to get in so early but traffic also weighs into the decision. An open roadway is great way to start the day.

But yes, my partner and I have different shifts. So when he wants to have a meeting at 4:00 I want to shoot him.
