terrible idle

Hello, Had my 328I convertible in the shop for a oil change. engine lights come on and rpms are somewhat all over the place plus a rough idle. The codes point to Vanos solenoid exhaust side. Is there anything this guy could have done that would cause this. No, I'm not bringing it back to him because I just don't trust the guy. Which is why I only let him do oil changes and mainly he is just a block away. I did change out the two solenoids to no avail, on initial startup runs terrible but once the oil temp gets to the 250 degree it seems to disappear.

If the filter wasn't installed properly onto the cage, or part of the cage is missing, it can cause rough idling and vanos issues. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2016493
