I used to turn traction control off in my 350z every time I got into it. After swapping to a square tire setup, the TCS became too intrusive, sometimes going off if I was just trying to accelerate on a curved on-ramp.
The car didn’t have stability control. In my 13+ years of daily driving that car, I never spun it. A sports car with a low center of gravity isn’t going to do anything too weird in a moose test, and I’m confident enough in my driving (100s of sideways moments in that car on purpose) that I’d be able to keep control in an emergency. Please note, there’s no black ice where I live. In a colder climate, I’d be much less inclined to roll around without electronic nannies. That said, I don’t roll around in the bimmer with the stability control off most of the time, unless I’m trying to rev match on my own. I need to feel the car out and explore it’s limits in a safe environment first to get my confidence up. Once that happens, I’ll still probably leave it on for normal driving but go full off (vs mdm) when I’m trying to fool around. The MDM is pretty intrusive from what I can tell just through small slides. The minute you lift, it clamps everything up tight again and you immediately stop sliding. |

In every day driving (I daily my F15 50i) I leave the DSC on. If there's snow on the roads, I'll switch it to DTC. If there's snow and I have an opportunity to have some safe "play time," I'll turn it completely off and have some fun.

DSC is on 98% of the time. It's off only if I am intent on doing things that would trigger it, on purpose. Otherwise, if it triggers by surprise, it's probably saving my sorry arse from self-inflicted stupidity. I have found that it is well calibrated in that it will not often trigger for no good reason.

I've discovered the 'DTC on startup' function in the JB4 menus so I primarily use that now. DTC gives me a little more play when accelerating but DSC will still step in if I'm putting the pedal to the floor. It's nice not having to press/hold the button every time I get in the car though.
I now only go full DSC off when the situation calls for it... which is usually not for any good reason.

Since getting the VF tune, my car breaks loose in 3rd with DSC on-used to drive in MDM but have switched to fulltime DSC. Don"t want to cause any harm-the car has over 700hp at the crank and 612 at the wheels. Its wild.

My stock M2C will sometimes break traction in 3rd. In MDM, it's very lenient, as long as I keep it from wagging its tail too much, it'll let me spin. In regular traction and DCS mode tho, as soon as it detects wheel spin, it kicks in.

I have a 330i, you have a 335i. Not so surprising that you see it in action a tad more than I do then. I'm pretty sure that with the torque numbers a 335i puts down, you can break traction if conditions are less than perfect for tire grip.

In my M4 I'd have DSC on about 50% of the time. For local driving or places without much traffic I'd go MDM. If I was out in the countryside and knew I could recover without risk of other cars/people I'd usually turn the bells and whistles fully off.
However, in my GT3 I leave it on about 99% of the time. I've experimented with it off and once the back starts to spin in that car, it's basically already too late. I've also done driver control training on a track with full instructor, and understand that my recovery in the GT3 with DSC off simply isn't as controlled as it was in the M. I don't want to risk that on any public roads...and also I'm just a helluva lot more careful in that car in general ![]()
