CarPlay and my X7 Don’t Play Nice
Picked up my X7 a week and a half ago and have had nothing but trouble with CarPlay. Tried everything to get it to consistently work but to no avail. Went to the X5 forum and found all sorts of complaints about iDrive 7 and CarPlay. No connection, dropped connection, no music showing, playing a song-stopping at the grocery store-leave phone in car-come back out - start car and NO CarPlay anymore. Also the Apple Pay screen when putting my Xs max in the wireless charger. All of these things I am experience have been going on in the X5 community. All are waiting on a major update to fix it. My software version is 11/2018.55. I love this car but this is very frustrating. FIX IT BMW!

Yeah, that's what I've been hearing too from the G05's. Doesn't surprise me if that's happening with the G07 also.
Now, you're still getting the Apple Pay screen when you put your iPhone in the wireless charger? That was supposedly fixed in the G05 with a software update. Have you had an update since taking delivery? Was the car updated to the latest software at delivery to you? |

Damn it, that's not promising.
I had Apple Carplay installed on my F83 via usb bough from eBay, and installed the Wifi antenna myself, that works fine on iDrive 6. Will report back Friday when I take delivery. |

The X5 latest update is 03/2019.30. My software version is 11/2018.55 so it would seem there must be an update out there for the X7. I’m calling the dealership today and will find out. My guess is right now coming out of the factory all X7s have the 11/2018 software. Can others who have their X7 chime in. By the way my remote start doesn’t work either. Great car but this software is destroying the experience!

My advice for all connected drive issues and iDrive issues is to have Genius open a case for you to escalate the matter. It’s the only way to get anything resolved in my experiences.
Apple Play works fine our G5, but we do get that Apple Pay thing pop up when charging |

Agreed on the suggestion to push the dealer on every little problem. That's the only way to get it fixed. But even more so, do realize that early X7 owners are in some way beta testers of the product, and BMW is looking to you, for what real-world problems you're finding, that they didn't encounter (or at least think was important) during testing.
Not what any of us want to hear, but BMW doesn't know what to fix, or what importance to place on it, if we don't tell them. |

My first post. We traded our 17 GLS 550 on a X7 xDrive i50 last week. While going over the tech with the genius we also noticed Apple Pay would pop up every time we placed our iPhone on the charger base. But as was posted above, iOS 12.2 resolved that issue. Another issue appears to have been resolved with regard to incoming text message alerts. I wasn't able to select the pop-up with the controller or by tapping on it to hear the message. In fact I couldn't even listed to messages in CarPlay. But that is all working now. So it appears that at least some of the issues we are experiencing in the X7 and X5 may be Apple issues, not BMW issues. Any thoughts?

I have an iPhone XS Max and a 7+. Updated both to 12.2. Hard reset both and still no help. On a 7 hour drive with multiple stops turning car on and off not only do I not have CarPlay on either but Bluetooth on car is not working at all. Says I am connected to my Xs max even when I power my phone OFF. Will not delete phone or connect to another phone. Will sometimes for a few minutes see my phones if they are connected to USB port up front. So I am reduced to hand holding my phones for calls. Just love spending $95k for this! Going to dealership tomorrow.

My software version is also at 11/2018.55 (same as mcbirdman) and I checked for a newer version several times. Looks like that's the latest version available for X7. If anyone has a newer version please post what version you're at.

Yikes. Presumably, that's a Nov 2018 software build. I would assume BMW would have a much more recent software version out, especially finding initial production release builds with the X7, and the ability to learn from the G05 issues that have required software updates.

The X5's have 2019 March idrive versions. Our February build came with old 2018.11 version too. Removing my iPhone from the paired list solved the disconnects. It's not a big deal as the x5 is primarily hers.
She has iPhone 8 and I have Xs Max

Went to dealership today. Mechanic reset the iDrive to factory settings. This deletes all profiles, settings, phones, data, etc. This solved the problem for now. I can now connect to my phone both through Bluetooth and CarPlay. HOWEVER, if I leave my car and then return with my phone I must reselect my phone to reconnect. That’s not how it’s suppose to work. Also the usb connection still doesn’t work correctly. I guess I’ll have to wait for BMW to update the software like they have with the X5. 11/2018.55 is the only software available at this time.

I realize the X5 has a much higher customer sales base than the X7, but we definitely should have had SOME sort of X7 software update in the last 4+ months. Launch of a brand new vehicle should naturally be followed with a slew of updates. |
