E92 M Spare Tire Suggestions?
Hey guys,
What are you all doing about the possibility of getting a flat tire in the E92 M? Are you buying a donut or something to be safe? Need some suggestions... Don't like not having a spare... |

Just sold my E46 space saver spare, because it's way too small for this car. I'd like to find an 18" space saver of the proper diameter.

I would imagine it was patched, rather than plugged. However, this is never recommended. The sidewall is subject to a lot of bending force and a repair can blow out suddenly.

nope - it was a plug inthe side of my moms Prelude - she didnt know any better and it lasted the life of the tire. my minispare fit the e46 and it will fit an MCoupe with spacers. pretty sure it will fit the e92 just a matter of spacers or not.

Space saver spare
It may fit on, but is likely to be about ~2" smaller in OD than stock. I wouldn't suggest it, especially in the rear.

My dealer tried the space saver available from LeatherZ. Even with a 15mm spacer it won't fit--the E9X M3's front brakes are too big. Then, of course, there is the diameter/handling issue. My dealer will soon be trying the space saver from an X3/550i with the 15mm spacer. It's a bit larger in diameter and has different offset. The OE tires are NOT runflats. This applies to both the 18" and 19" M3 tires. Roadside assistance or patch kit and compressor, or compressor and sealant would be options. Putting a spare in the trunk works too, but adds weight and takes up space.
Tire Rack carries the ContiComfort Kit, which you can find in our Other Products section. http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AW8&...ries/index.jsp

I'm curious, did you get any results on this? A good friend just picked up an m3 'vert and is really keen on carrying a spacesaver spare. I carry the e60 17" spare on my non-M e90. |

Yes, I'd be interested in a space-saver option for trips. I carry a plug kit as another option for puncture repair, but that won't cure a major failure.

I got a flat in my old E90 without RF tires on a Saturday night. It was Monday evening by the time I got my car back with a tire. Sorry, but not having a spare (or options) for all E9x's is a little silly if you ask me. At least have a space saver so you can attempt to get home. |

The space saver wheel from the X6 (part number 36-11-6-768-861) mounted with a 125/70-18 space saver tire will fit on both the front and rear of the E9x M3 without a spacer. The only problem is that the center bore of the X6 wheel is a bit larger than the E9x M3's hub so you have to be very careful to center the wheel on the hub when tightening the lugs. I'd like to find an adapter to properly center the wheel on the hub but without an adapter this setp works fine at least at moderate speeds and for relatively short distances. Godspeed, Tom |

Edit: I just found that the Cadillac CTS uses a 135/80-18, which, at ~26.5", would be a little larger than the stock 26.3" rear. I'm sure you could have an adapter machined pretty easily, but would be nice to find a pre-made one. Do you know the centerbore diameters? X5 is 74.1, so I assume X6 is the same? (M3 CB = 72.56). Edit: I found the proper hubcentric plastic rings here (74.1/72.56): http://www.1010tires.com/hubrings.as...FU0wpAodcQqcmw $21/set of 4.

That's great. Are you sure about the respective diameters? If so, I'll order the right ring pronto. Thanks for finding this. My dealer checked the available sizes--at least the ones available a few months ago--and I believe the 125/70-18 tire is the best size available for this use. Godspeed, Tom |
